this scene is so intense and realistic and heightens the stakes on that character's end so much and its like. yea i get this is a funny book and it was made into a horror comedy film but like. no sorry i think you couldve still had this whole thing and not lost any of the tone. it works so well here

see the pov shifts and over-explanations might be jarring at first but they get so good, especially when it reaches a point where the fungus itself is treated like a pov character and metaphorical parallels are drawn between its confinement underground for 30+ years and teacake's own time in jail

the prose style in this book is honestly so good, like it feels almost hilariously like modern online dialect in some ways. like i love that sometimes things are just capitalized Like This for emphasis rather than like, italicizing them or smth. its genuinely so fun

its understandable but also like, honestly kinda jarring? like we'll spend pages in roberto's head and then boom, next paragraph just instantly flips to hero and her thoughts. its like driving down a street with stop signs every 500 feet

bought the ebook and this is a really fascinating sort of pov. like you can tell the screenwriter is popping out because he can't stay in the mind of a singular character

back to feeling uncomfortable going onto my kh acct but this time purely because everything there just feels so. idk. artificial. everything being posted for promotion and for show and it just feels weirdly empty
