Sorry if I sounded scolding lol, i'm not someone in the scene either haha. I agree that it's rare for there to be a whole cloth new subgenre with it's own set of tropes and archetypes just emerging spontaneously like this these days without a clear cut origin point..

Actually yeah, rephrasing that, it does "exist", it's the body of fiction ppl have already produced for it. If we've collectively lost the ability to categorize genre fiction without it being "from" something that's very worrying lol.

I think defining it in terms of "Fandom for thing that doesn't exist" is ill conceived. I don't think anyone in the mechsploit space thinks of it in those terms, it's just like an emergent subgenre manifesting the way any other subgenre does - if anything after Warhound it's "the Warhound fandom"
