Super Mario World has an extremely eclectic art style whereby many enemies are drawn in completely different ways. Development files reveal Mario went through many stylistic changes; it is possible that all the enemies were made to fit Mario, but at different points in time.

in the context of "바라던 바다!", 바다 is a compound of 바 (reference to a thing mentioned previously) and -다 (declarative suffix). So that sentence just means "That's what I wanted!"

Due to the unique way Super Mario Bros. stores its maps, its level designers were at the mercy of the decorative hills and bushes when placing bottomless pits. While the pits can be placed freely, the decorations are non-negotiable and dictate the level design.

Experimental Post: Wiggler Wednesday
I have compiled a collection of obscure facts about Wiggler in Super Mario 64.

This convo I had highlights the difference in what "respect your time" means in games.

A lot of players want to trade time for in-game progress. It's purely transactional: 1 hour = 1 progress

But I want to feel like my actions matter i.e. what I do with time creates progress, not time itself.

In Super Mario 64, the haunted chairs and normal chairs are actually the exact same object, whose behavior is determined solely by how close it is to the piano. Chairs close to the piano get it assigned as a parent object. Only parentless chairs are coded to become haunted.

In Super Mario World, the Big Bubble enemies are just minimally edited and recolored bodies of Big Boos. While this is most likely simply a case of asset reuse, it can also be interpreted as Big Bubbles being a more immaterial, protoplasmic state of Big Boos.

In Super Mario 64, there is a 1/256 chance of a fish spawning when Mario jumps out of water anywhere. However, during development, the fish were instead restricted to a single spot in Whomp's Fortress, which spawned them continuously in the form of a bountiful fountain of fish.

An unused object found in Yoshi's Island is the "Overly Congratulative Green Coin". It is identical in functionality to a red coin, but plays the Perfect Clear fanfare when placed in specific areas. This causes the game to appear to unnecessarily celebrate every single coin.
