To me, the whole reason for preserving food is to survive without our creature comforts. Electricity may not be working when we need to eat those foods. I will always go with canning.

I opened a jar of my salsa, which was expensive to make because I didn't grow the ingredients, and over which I toiled for two days, only to open a jar to find it disappointing. It's much too mild for my taste. It makes for a suitable gazpacho. Grumble grumble.

They live on a different plane of existence than the real people. They do not give a shit about us. We are just in the way.

What a fine gift to us all was The Corporation for Public Broadcasting. We must keep these types of shows, and these approaches to life available.

How sad is our society today with its terribly skewed priorities.

What struck me was that both the skills they taught and its approach to guiding children were still valid today. We had to watch it on HBO, a streaming service for which we must pay. Oh, it's still out there. Just not for everyone. And that breaks my heart.

I watched the very first episode of Sesame Street, which came out in 1969, with my two-year old granddaughter this afternoon. It was not perfect. You could sometimes see the hands of the puppeteers. But Maeve watched intently except for a couple of sequences that were too long.

Excellent work. I, too, love to can. It's very late in the season where I live. Since I have nothing to can, I'm lost!
