From time to time I see job postings with listed salary ranges for higher education positions across areas. It has me aware how woefully underpaid I was in those former systems I existed in. Plus having to fundraise for my own position and services for students with each institution. I hustled.

Surreal to be in a planning committee for a national conference and concerns coming from tribes about sending their staff due to ICE.

You might not know but for every place they tagged on a map with a colonizer name, tribes named those sites with our languages prior to those who immigrated here and still refer to it by those original names. People and ideology of most are temporary spots in time, our beliefs are time immemorial.

If you haven’t had the “opportunity” to read the memo issued by Matthew J. Vaeth OMB titled “Temporary Pause of Agency Grant, Loan, and Other Financial Assistance Programs”. It’s real world dystopian 💩 that is happening. They backtracked on this for now. But gear up for what more will be coming.

I still have a job it seems. I left higher education to be part of tribal community based education about six years ago. I needed to be about doing the work instead of teaching about the work. It isn’t easy but the Native babies and children are worth it.

I’m potentially without a job after 5 pm eastern time today due to the halting of federal grants issued yesterday. Strangely enough, I feel calm and collected. Call it historical trauma preparedness.
