I made a zine two years ago lamenting the way Halifax has changed in my lifetime and maybe I'll use this for volume 2

YOU WAKE UP COLD IN YOUR $3000/MONTH BACHELOR APARTMENT. IT'S LIGHTLY RAINING SO YOUR POWER IS OUT. YOU'RE SICK BUT WILL NEVER HAVE A FAMILY DOCTOR. YOU SKIP BREAKFAST BECAUSE YOU CAN'T AFFORD GROCERIES. YOU PUT HIKING BOOTS ON SO YOU DON'T FALL ON THE UNPAVED SIDEWALKS. YOU MOVE PAST THE 30 MINUTE WAIT FOR THE 15 MINUTE BUS AS STUDENTS WALK BY WHO CAN NO LONGER TAKE IT. IN FRONT OF THE CLOSED MUSEUM IS A PARKED CAR DESTROYED BY A POTHOLE. A TENT CITY WHERE UNHOUSED PEOPLE ARE GETTING READY FOR WORK IS BEING HARASSED BY POLICE. YOU ARRIVE AT THE HOSPITAL AND PREPARE FOR YOUR 27 HOUR WAIT, THINKING ABOUT ALL THE THINGS YOU MISS IN HALIFAX.

Annapurna seemed restless this morning. We haven't played fetch in a while because I didn't know what happened to all her favorite fetching toys. so I swept under the office daybed and got a lot more treasure than expected. She started rolling around right away, so pumped to play fetch.

I can't believe I worked on 85 books last year, and tbh this is conservative because I did some reading for Tapas to make sure series going onto the app were tagged correctly.

I've nearly paid off my student loans and when that happens I'll have no excuse not to be much lazier

People always act the like PCs are fiscally conservative and the NDP will spend money like crazy, yet Dexter became premier during one of the worst economic periods and managed to bring in a surplus by the end of year four while still growing the economy.

the thing about moral panics is they aren't about moral panics. it's about community control and rampant bigotry. censorship is a tool of fascists, those who purity police are fascists, and if your disgust agrees with their mission more than the right for fiction to gross you out, you are a fascist

If you're doing callout posts about artists creating fictional taboo content, you may not consider yourself a fascist, but you are one. You are their stupid tool at the bare minimum. The good news is you can stop doing that at any time

This whole maneuver was shameless, craven, and the mayor should be ashamed to show his face.

There are no political parties in municipal politics in Canada. The mayor's not 'pitted' against council, it is not productive to maintain an antagonistic relationship with them.

I’m fucking fed up with the obsession that seems to held by some - the notion that the only way to prove that you’re serious about finances is to furrow your brow and hurt people.

Cut it all away until there's nothing left to prove you're 'serious' Fucking embarrassing.

Oh mine are just socks instead of full stockings but still!

They're not that bad. People use them for walking/hiking/jobs where you're standing all the time. I bought some for my trip to Japan. I can give you a pair

They brought down two of the trees facing Windsor St and now that little sanctuary of green space will be gone replaced with a new concrete pit.

They're blocking it off to build housing. So it could be worse but it's been an empty field for like ten years now and it has a community garden and people walk across it every day, have picnics, markets, the fair. I picked dandelions there every spring. I'm depressed!

I’ve also been comparing AI to asbestos and radium—technology that had a bunch of benefits but then turned out to be deadly. The only difference is we already KNOW AI is killing people and they’re shoving it into everything anyway

Not to disagree with you, but I don't really see any councilors doing much once they're in council, so I assume the battles are moved to another playing field behind the desks. Are other councilors engaging in public debates while in office?
