Something that bothers me a little bit is the removal of the front numbers from the Nationals' white jersey. It looks a little TOO empty.

I implore some team to sign Fernando Abad because he has a fun streak of playing in the majors in every other year dating back to 2017. He's currently pitching in the Mexican League and has been decent.

Camilo Doval got some atrocious luck in his Yankees' debut but overall, that was a really fun game.

Getting Tidwell and Gilbert for a rental Rogers is good enough but somehow getting Butto is amazing. The Mets must think that they'll re-sign him this offseason.

It may have been a family member? He's from the Fremont area. The shipping time on those custom jerseys from China are much longer than the time he's been on the team.

Wilmer Flores is back

Surprising move as it looks like the team has decided to add Hampson to the 40-man after all. He provides a bit more versatility than Vargas because of his ability to play all three outfield spots.

Week 5 of camp and the major battle is who will be the 5th starter between Roupp and Birdsong. Opening Day is this upcoming Thursday so we'll find out the answers to all of the positional questions quite soon. #SFGiants

Unless the D-backs decide to add Hampson to the 40-man roster in the next 48 hours, he will become a free agent and Vargas will all but wrap up the battle for the bench utility spot.

The battle rages on. There's only six more games of Spring Training. It seems like Vargas has the edge, but there's still more time.

Mancini and Lawlar are off the board. It's down to Hampson and Vargas.

Mancini would be a nice story, but just doesn't fit the roster's needs. All the while, all of this chatting is about the backup infield spot, which isn't going to win a team the World Series. And they could very well go out and trade for someone and none of these players make the team. Stay tuned.

Lawlar has been playing some third on top of shortstop this spring, but still may need to go down to the minors to learn other positions because the Diamondbacks recently signed current shortstop Geraldo Perdomo to a three-year contract extension.

There you have it. You've met all four of the candidates for that backup infielder spot. As of right now, my preference list is as follows:
1. Ildemaro Vargas
2. Jordan Lawlar
3. Garrett Hampson
4. Trey Mancini
Vargas is the only non-righty of the group and is as versatile as Hampson.
