Every time I do an Arthrosurface Hemicap, I encourage the residents to watch this movie. It's not the same as seeing it when you're seven but I hope they are still a little terrified.
Maximillian attacks with the humeral reamer.
Happy Jackie Robinson Day.
It's the day when #MLB celebrates the most significant event in the history of baseball.
A photo of the sports section article for the Detroit Free Press with an article about Jackie Jobe's 6 shutout in I ha to win his first MLB game.
I still get a physical newspaper on Sundays.
My favorite part is giving them to players who look at you like "what is this thing you handed me?"
I tell them their parents will want to keep it.
Congrats, Jackson Jobe, on your first MLB win.
Your mom will have this forever.
The guy who did this awesome shoe shine at the MSP airport just asked me out of the blue if I have ever heard of "Harrison Bergeron."
It's one of my favorite short stories.
The world is an incredible place.

For the first time in nearly 15 years there are no Teslas in our driveway.
Today we sold her Model X and last week we sold my Model S.
A Macan EV and a Polestar 3 have upgraded our electric vehicle stable.
So glad to have much better EV choices than when I had to compromise to drive electric.
A picture of me in my boys' Edina Rugby workout shirt sweaty and tousled in the Detroit Tigers weight room in Lakeland.
Last day of Spring Training for me. Got a workout in before everyone arrived!
22.03.2025 12:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Another great incoming residency class at Henry Ford Health Dept of Orthopedics.
We are so lucky to have all six of you!
Me and my wife wearing the green for St. Paddy's Day at Publix Field.
Enjoying @tigers.bsky.social Spring Baseball with my favorite human.
17.03.2025 18:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A selfie of me on a sunny day wearing a Detroit Tigers Old English D white polo and the 2025 Orange spring training cap.
I got to walk the grounds today.
It was nice and sunny so I bummed a new cap!
A photo of the cover of "Locker Room Talk" by Melissa Ludtke.
This should be the next book you read.
The parallels to pioneering women in ortho is chilling.
Me wearing a red turtleneck and vintage Harris Tweed jacket with a text that says "This is 2Β° air temps either with no breeze and a vintage Harris Tweed."
A cartoon from today's paper Wumo. It's a single panel of four people at a table with coffee mugs in front of them. "And you're an expert in sociology?" one asks. "Actually, no. I just wear tweed and a turtleneck so everyone thinks so." It fits because half of shoulder surgery is sociology.
Two consecutive texts with my wife.
Me bragging about my cool warm sports coat and her sharing the morning comics today!
And now it's a full squad.
How fun to see the boys of summer back on the field.

My gray-bearded face with the background of Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, FL.
So excited to be headed back down to Lakeland to do physicals on position players. Pitchers and catchers reported last week.
Almost ready to let the games begin!
We go for it!
21.12.2024 19:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Come to my clinic.
As a shoulder geek, physical exam is my favorite part!
Nice work on this. These take patience and an eye for the tear pattern. Looks wonderful!
21.12.2024 19:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Jon Braman and MaC Hogan standing together. Mac is wearing one of his awesome signature bow ties.
Dr. MaCalus Hogan came to Henry Ford as our Grand Rounds Speaker and gave an amazing talk!
It is always so fun connecting with great leaders who happen to be great friends.
The dawn of understanding once the datapoints are added is rewarding.
(FYI the article describes the test for AC pathology & superior labral tears).
Not because it's punitive but because it's foundational.
I have sentinel articles on my server ready to share. Reading the article & sharing with me is the "homework."
My favorite resident moment is finding a thing in clinic (e.g. positive "O'Brien's test" for AC joint pain) and asking "Are you surprised that this was abnormal in this patient?" Followed by.
"Have you read the "Active Compression Test" article from AJSM?
@ranaawdish.bsky.social is even more amazing in person and I'm lucky enough to have her as a partner!
26.11.2024 11:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Agreed about the strut. The big advantage I have seen is that it enables you to have more bone when the medial cortex is attenuated and thin. If the stem loosens in the future the allograft might give you more to work with. As a result I would use one with thin cortices. I don't see that here.
25.11.2024 15:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0OR day and the resident is crushing it.
So fun to teach.
A picture of the on field team photo of the Detroit Tigers after they clinched their wildcard victory against the Houston Astros in Houston and 2024. Yes, that's me up in the stage right back row corner!
A little something came for my office today.
22.11.2024 01:57 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Spent two hours yesterday in the lab with two PhDs thinking about the interplay between obesity and orthopaedic disease and how it can be modeled, studied, and then napkin drew a ten year research pathway.
I love this part of research so much.
Trying to get up and running over here.
If you like #shoulderology, #DetroitTigersBaseball or #Mentorship follow along!
A picture of Jon Braman and Ken Yamaguchi.
Such a great Grand Rounds hearing from Dr. Ken Yamaguchi about his journey on both the provider and the payer sides.
01.11.2023 21:47 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Doing surgery in a new place is simultaneously anxiety provoking and amazing. What a great team and a good result!
02.10.2023 18:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I wanted to share this podcast of a legend and the time I got to interview him.
Thanks, Dr. Evarts and the AOA!
