If anybody happens to be in London, a great role just posted on one of my teams. Itβs focused on high-quality research and discovery in the AI+health space, and requires a clinical background. Details (including required experience) at www.google.com/about/career...

Many things that I am thankful for, but one of them is the Long Ridge Preserve in the Santa Cruz mountains.

Really amazing to see #AI #ethics as the topic of Harvard Medical Schoolβs oldest endowed lecture (est. 1917 by George Washington Gay, class of 1868). Effy Vayenaβs talk was a tour de force on the implications of AI for bioethics.

My career has focused on patient safety & quality. Since Iβve now been at Google for a while, I often get asked what #AI means for quality & safety since weβre in the generative AI era. I wrote down some thoughts on the space, out now in BMJ Quality & Safety: qualitysafety.bmj.com/content/33/1....

AI 1.0 = symbolic AI and probabilistic models
AI 2.0 = the era of deep learning
AI 3.0 = foundation models and generative AI

Jupiter overexposed but with three moons visible in orbit.
These are fairly crummy photos, but they are just from a regular zoom lens plus a teleconverter. Itβs shocking to me that you can see Jupiter that way. I donβt think Iβm hallucinating the cloud bands in one, and in the other you can see three of Jupiterβs moons in orbit. #astrophotography

It can be hard to get a feel for WHY something is a technological step change ... but this demo of Googleβs next foundation model gives a good sense. It's pretty mind-blowing.
