Opinion | How to Wreck the Nationโs Health, by the Numbers (Gift Article)
The administration's cuts to the Department of Health and Human Services are going to do irreparable harm to the nationโs health.
โWhile RFKJr. makes a spectacle of his plans to make America healthier (a laudable goal), in actuality, the administration is kneecapping the very infrastructure that would make that feasible and is instead enacting policies that will compromise health.โ

Analysis | The MAHA Reportโs AI fingerprints, annotated
The Post reviewed the more than 500 citations in the MAHA Report. Here are the patterns of AI use we found.
The White Houseโs โMake America Healthy Againโ report, which issued a dire warning about the forces responsible for Americansโ declining life expectancy, bears hallmarks of the use of AI in its citationsโ and appears to have garbled citations and invented studies.

Iโm Sensing Some Future
One of my frequent laments is that here we are, a quarter of the way into the 21st century, yet too much of our health care system stillโฆ
Floss that is also a health sensor. Nano biosensors. Engineering cancer treatments in vivo. Yeah, those are the kind of #healthcare futures I'm looking for.

And Now for Some Fun Future
I feel like Iโve been writing a lot about futures I was pretty worried about, so Iโm pleased to have a couple developments to talk aboutโฆ
These seem like dark days for U.S. science, but let's remember that there is exciting work still being done that bodes well for the future, including in healthcare. I profile a couple examples.

Internal budget document reveals extent of Trumpโs proposed health cuts
HHS would be asked to absorb a $40 billion cut, about one-third of its discretionary budget.
New White House proposal would reduce the $47 billion budget of the NIH to $27 billion โ a roughly 40% cut.
The proposal would cut the CDCโs budget by about 44%, from $9.2B to about $5.2B & would eliminate all of the agencyโs chronic disease programs

The foundations of Americaโs prosperity are being dismantled
Federal scientists warn that Americans could feel the effects of the new administration's devastating cuts for decades to come.
"Dismantling the behind-the-scenes scientific research programs that backstop American life could lead to long-lasting, perhaps irreparable damage to everything from the quality of health care to the publicโs access to next-gen consumer technologies."

Grants from the National Institutes of Health come with additional money for overhead. Proposed funding cuts would leave colleges with large budget gaps.
The antithesis of MAHA:
Short-Term
-Immediate Budget Gaps for Universities
-Layoffs & Reduced Research Capacity
-Disruptions to Ongoing Medical Research
-Negative Impact on Grad Students & Postdocs
Long-Term
