ICE crackdown imperils Afghans who aided U.S. war effort, lawyers say
Advocates fear President Donald Trumpβs ambitious deportation plan jeopardizes Afghan interpreters and other allies who worked for U.S. troops during the war.
A disgrace.
βOne former interpreter for U.S. forces in Afghanistan was detained by immigration agents after he showed up for a routine green card appointment. A second was arrested just minutes after attending his first asylum hearing in San Diego.β

The Mothership Vortex: An Investigation Into the Firm at the Heart of the Democratic Spam Machine
How a single consulting firm extracted $282 million from a network of spam PACs while delivering just $11 million to actual campaigns.
The annoying spam texts destroying the Democratic brand:
$678M raised through those spam tactics
$282M to one consulting firm: Mothership Strategies.
$11M to actual campaigns (1.6%)
The party isnβt just treating donors like marksβitβs being fleeced itself yet continues to back Mothership.

Colombia Brazil in Copa America is an absolute thriller
Marta scored my favorite goal in soccer for the equalizer in the final minute of stoppage. Loose ball bounces around, comes outside box, three step run up and blast on frame. Usually a defensive midfielder. Either goal, or row zed

its was in forging loving community with the other (dogs) that we learned how to be ourselves.
caring for these dumb lovable silly creatures isn't cringe, or silly. its the most human thing we can do.
02.08.2025 14:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
which means dogs didn't just teach us to dream.
they taught us how to become human.
02.08.2025 14:29 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
so the theory goes, our old old old team up with dogs let early man start to sleep deeper. start to dream.
and its once we started getting that deep rem sleep that we started to become conscious
02.08.2025 14:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
there's a theory, i have no idea how accurate, but i like the idea of it, that:
humans sleep deeper and spend longer in deep rem phases when they can hear their dog's breathing. that part actually is true

The best decision, BY FAR, that humans ever made, was making friends with dogs.
It was pragmatic, but also empathetic, and brought us joy.
And we did it a long, long, long time ago.
The foresight. The dedication to cuteness. Honestly, looking at humanity today, Iβm shocked we had it in us.

Supreme Court keeps a pause for now on a ruling that weakens the Voting Rights Act
The Supreme Court has extended a pause, for now, on a lower court ruling that struck down a key tool for protecting minority voters under the Voting Rights Act in seven states.
Two cases from the 8thβ―Circuit threaten to dramatically limit the Voting Rights Act.
At stake: Β§2 (through a Β§1983 claim) and Β§208 of the VRA.
In 2022, overturning decades of precedence, 8th Cir. said Β§2 contained no private right of action.
