No one does numbers right. Well no one except the marine corps. But no one else. it’s insane.

Like… it’s the most basic thing.

Someone at Raytheon should be feel bad. For lots of reasons but that’s one of them.

I had like manuals and diagrams and stuff. Really tried. For better men than me

I tried to learn about sm-3s. Started with “so what are these things anyway? Whats going on here?” and I found out something really important:

I am not cut out for rocketry. Or manufacturing, metallurgy, math, engineering, general handiness.

Seems complicated. And that usually means expensive.

Damn. Makes sense tho. I was hoping maybe…. You know sometimes they mess it all up and don’t get the main most important thing. Was holding out hope for incompetence. No such luck.
😢

Thanks Charlie!

Can I be less concerned than shrieking violets want me to be and focus instead of worrying about other stuff?

Or like, do they not know the half of it, it’s gonna be a giant shit show for years with bad consequences.

Or somewhere in between

random aside, as an industrial base knower, the coverage on munitions. The expensive precision stuff. And interceptors.

is the general sentiment relatively appropriate / focused on the right thing, 50/50 half right half off base, or all the way wrong / completely missing the point / huge gaps

It’s like trying to stand with your bare body in front of a steam roller, a miles long train, hundreds of cars, all that momentum…

But saw Tammy Duckworth firing heat today and it lit a fire. Even if anger hits walls, is disappointed, or ignored… christ it’s better than bowing to the inevitable

Been depressed since it started. Had no words. The opposing force - how can anyone keep standing against, when every day is so new obscene perversion of norms

I mean, how many more times can you shout from the rooftops that Caribbean drone strikes are just murder and be met with indifference?

Not an invitation to put young people in the mud, in case that isn’t clear. Rather, a stark warning.

Anyone who says you can win everything and do it from 30,000 ft overhead with just the push of a couple buttons, is either selling something, or lying.

you may fly over a land forever; … bomb it, atomize it, pulverize it and wipe it clean of life—but if you desire to defend it, protect it and keep it for civilization, you must do this on the ground, the way the Roman legions did, by putting your young men in the mud

Having a zero tolerance policy for Nazis is really not that hard. Just don't tolerate any Nazis.

I usually argue against zero tolerance policies, but with Nazis, I make an exception. There is simply no excuse to have been a Nazi. Live your life but you don't deserve any position that has power.

If you wanna tank a presidency over the issue… hey, 20 years of losing a war, someone’s head has to roll… mistakes sure as fuck were made. Absolutely. Across all admins.

But if you are gonna score points off human misery, a bare minimum effort to ameliorate that misery seems appropriate

Lot of Republican members of HFAC told me at this hearing I testified at, how much they wanted to keep our commitment to our allies, how they supported an adjustment act.

And 5 years later …. CARE defunded, Afghans trapped in limbo in Qatar (at a base that Iran attacked, not that anyone cares)

As a guy spent a good a good chunk of my days working with Afghan allies after the fall, I can tell you, the real son of a bitch of it all…

After excoriating Biden, holding hearings, placing blame…

Turns out no one, not the press, not republicans on the hill, actually gave that much of a fuck.

"It is not irrational for a legislature to encourage citizens to appreciate their sex and not become disdainful of their sex by refusing to fund experimental procedures that may have the opposite effect," wrote Judge Julius Richardson, a Trump appointee.

It is not irrational for a legislature to encourage citizens to appreciate their erectile dysfunction, and not become disdainful of their floppy impotent penises, by refusing to fund procedures or medications that may have the opposite effect

Nostalgia is at the heart of the great American novel - Gatsby. Gatsby is nostalgic in the American way — conflating intensified longing for an unattainable frontier as progress towards it.

We imagine ourselves forward moving, but the horizon we chase is often the restoration of an idealized past.

I wish I could do this with every Iranian dead as well. It’s perverse that we kill so many people whose names we will never know and even never think about.

When you come upon this post in a thread I fear I will keep updating, spare at least a moment for them.
