Do you have any more information? My kid goes to JB and I’ve heard nothing. Very concerned about our community there.

Ed tech is profitable. It is also mostly useless Independent research identifies few learning gains

Blistering piece on ed tech in @economist.com.

β€˜Although ed-tech companies tout huge learning gains, independent research has made clear that technology rarely boosts learning in schoolsβ€”and often impairs it.’

Students know what’s up. This sharp seventh grader raises the obvious question about what teacher use of AI implies for student usage.

For example, an Amazon delivery driver, who sits in a cabin surrounded by AI cameras that monitor the driver’s eyes and take points off if the driver looks in a proscribed direction, and monitors the driver’s mouth because singing is not allowed on the job, and rats the driver out to the boss if they do not make quota.

This is the fucking limit. I had no idea that Amazon drivers AREN'T ALLOWED TO SING

Dunno, Smartphone-Free Childhood and Fairplay both have groups working on EdTech issues with people I would consider the leaders in the field. But we’ll see what happens…

I actually feel like those groups are starting to amplify the EdTech issues now. The tide is turning.

I do wish that the media would pick up on the harms of edtech too. We occasionally see it but the screen free phone ban groups won’t touch it- and that’s telling. The entire edtech ecosystem is surveillance and people need to know that. And refuse it. Schools are catalysts for data rights abuse

Asking Students to Use AI Responsibly When The Adults Aren't Kids can't be expected to learn what adults haven't β€” or can't β€” learn

The techbros producing AI products are not doing so responsibly.

The politicians funded by techbros are not regulating them responsibly.

But sure, the teachers can figure out how to get children to use it responsibly.

'Do Not Look': Netizens Warn Grok's X Profile Is Saturated With AI-Generated Nude Images Social media users are issuing an urgent plea to stay away from the official Grok account on X as the platform struggles to contain a surge of graphic, synthetic imagery.

So much to say here but it's yet another reminder that it is kind of a sick joke to suggest that the kids can be taught to "use AI responsibly" when the adults are and can not.
