having been a GM for people from 7 years old to original AD&D second edition players in public events really puts into perspective how big the TTRPG hobby is… i got my start in D&D 5th ed 2014, where did some of you guys start and what’re you playing now?? i’m so curious

overall the new people weren’t an issue, you develop a skill for talking to people professionally. but i just missed the connections from games with friends or people who you are more familiar with

i had my regulars at my events but there were always new people and at cons i would be assigned a table of strangers that would be new to experienced based on tier generally. i had a reputation for working well with kids too so that was quite a limiting factor on what i could run at my table, all PG

it was mostly due to lack of support for it in my area, organizing was sparse and inconsistently executed and there was little community that i could connect with in person. but the times that it popped off it was amazing! when cons were busy or when events were packed was when i was most excited!
