Starbucks is a massive tax-avoider, putting local coffee shops out of business. Been boycotting them for years.

Words cannot describe how tone-deaf it is to publish this article at this moment.

But The Economist has been consistently tone-deaf in their Europe coverage for years. They will never get over their obsession with America, even as the US descends toward dictatorship or civil war.

Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."

The US building energy-hungry, water-thirsty data centres abroad, including in the UK, is looking like resource-stripping - in the same way that China and the Saudis have been buying US land to grow wheat for their own consumption, to conserve their own water supplies.

This is goading people to burn flags in protest. Trump wants those images broadcast to justify ordering violence against protestors.

From outside the US, looks like the Trump Administration is actually trying to provoke civil conflict.

Victoria Derbyshire posted earlier that he hadnโ€™t been charged - suggesting, I think, that he was bailed pending further investigation.

Thoโ€™ there is reportedly a strong correlation between Islamist terrorism and previous brushes with the law for sexual and/or domestic violence.

Ok, Iโ€™ve got you now. Yes, every second new BSky follower seems to be a bot, a scammer or a porn star! It was even worse on X. People feel the need to post that they had a coffee, or went to bed early, or whatever! Thereโ€™s a lot of mundanity to wade through to find the news!

By โ€˜engageโ€™, do you mean post and/or reply?

I only social media (Twitter, now Bluesky) to see the news and to find out what *qualified* commentators have to say about it.

Iโ€™m not here to โ€˜express myself,โ€™ as the article put it, and every random person expressing themself is mostly noise to me.

The Age of Enshittification In a new book, the technology critic Cory Doctorow expands on a coinage that has become bleakly relevant, in Silicon Valley and beyond.

โ€œEnshittificationโ€ was a term coined by Cory Doctorow, in 2022, to describe how the technologies that dominated our daily lives seemed to be all getting worse at the same time. Now, in a new book, he expands on the word that has become bleakly relevant.

In Poland authorities have captured a Russian intelligence operative carrying explosive-filled cans, drone components, and SIM cards. In Lithuania, explosives were discovered in a cemetery.

All part of a big Russian plot to commit terrorist attacks across Europe.
