Yeah, the "everything must look like an app!" culture killed that philosophy. In dA's case, that was just one of the many missteps they made along with the Wix's buyout. Not worth mentioning the AI thing which is straight up pathetic

Any Kirby game can cheer me up. Another game that helped me was Animal Crossing Wild World, this is a bit personal but last year I felt disappointed with something and when I decided to disconnect a bit from the internet, that game helped me get up and get back on track. Hopium game if you ask me 😅

I have fond memories of that site. This was the place I started posting my first digital drawings and where I found a good number of talented artists from whom I would learn a lot. It had its flaws of course but it doesn't compare to the tragic fate that would await it years later

But yes, people used to be more open about that, that's what makes a community after all. I won't romanticize dA because there were also bad things like reposters and extremely rude people, but that sense of community is something I haven't seen on another site since that big migration in 2014-15

Criticism of art from strangers was very common, fortunately I never received harsh criticism, except once about my OCs (ended up proving them right cause I no longer use them lol). Rather, the advices or criticism I received was more about my attitude, wish I could delete certain comments I made xD

A similar case to mine, it was like the most suitable place to post my art when I started using the internet more. Although my friendships there were very short-lived, I still remember those advices that talented artists gave me when I used to be that typical immature person who needs those things

During my early 20s, I went through a phase of trying out other genres like metroidvanias and JRPGs. It was something interesting, specifically the Castlevania series, which was the best discovery I made. In recent years, I've preferred to return mainly to platform games, which is what I knew best

I hope they improve Pac-Man World 2 a lot because it had a lot of potential to have been a solid 3D platformer. I played the original last year and honestly it had several shitty parts lol

I played the first one much later, whereas I played 2 and 3 simultaneously!

Donkey Kong Country. I played it at a time when I was starting to get into 2D platformers and all the animation effects and its astounding soundtrack still blow my mind. Also I don't remember another enemy gang as charming as the Kremling Krew in that game. Literally shaped my tastes in gaming
