Countries we’ve recently invaded or had conflicts with:
Iraq
Iran
…and now, Venezuela

Countries we’ve made strategic alliances with:
Kuwait
Saudi Arabia
United Arab Emirates

What do all these states have in common?

They’re all members of OPEC, the major oil producers of the world.

The US doesn’t care about narcotics, that’s a cover. Do you know what else Venezuela has?

Oil. And lots of it.

They’re the only member of OPEC in the Americas. That should tell you something.

Always get weird feelings around celebrating Banned Book week when our school librarian has been quietly pulling things from the shelves for years.

If a law is unethical, you don’t follow it. Period.

Go read something they don’t want you to.

A meme photo of an Adelie penguin holding an AK-47.

Most birds have a fight or flight response.

He forgot we’re flightless birds.

“Down with the government!”

*realizes they are the government*

“Wait, wait, no…”

Trump voters losing their jobs are suddenly realizing they ARE the government they hate so much.

By definition, a public employee is someone who works for a government agency. They’re low level bureaucrats. Park rangers, IRS accountants, VA employees- all part of our “government of the people.”

Me when people say they don’t like brussel sprouts/asparagus/broccoli, etc.

They’ve said they want to bring criminal charges against teachers and librarians just for doing their jobs. Federal employees are just easier targets at the moment. Anyone doing any job they don’t like will not be safe unless they are stopped.

Glad I free filed last week. Dunno when or if I’ll ever get my grand back though. My friends who worked at the IRS in KC were fired recently.

Fun language word play!

When asked why he wasn’t wearing a suit, Zelenskyy said he would wear a better costume than yours once the war was over.

The Ukrainian word for suit is “costume” (костюм). But, Zelenskyy is also fluent in English.

He knew what he was doing.

I don’t get why they called that a shouting match, the guy couldn’t get two words in. I won’t tolerate being yelled at- I would’ve left too.

Why do I get the sense their push to make a new holiday in June is just so they can replace another one they don’t like… 🤔

You’re right, and that’s definitely a problem. I do know our conservation agents are working to manage CWD in our deer. I personally don’t like hunting. I would love to see the wolves come back. I’m just saying this is how it works here and it’s not an entirely bad system.

Our conservation department does an excellent job at managing limits for all hunted species and educating the public about their efforts. Their free magazine is enjoyed by many of us throughout the state.

We have few natural predators left in Missouri, and people freak out over the few left (mainly cougars). Reintroduction would be a hard sell. Most hunters here eat their kill, and if they don’t we have a Share the Harvest program for donating to food banks.

A well camouflaged owl perched in front of a tree's trunk.

This was one of two wild Barred Owls that lived (and may still live) near a nature center and rehab facility on the west side of Cleveland. I photographed this one in 2018. #birds, #photography

And lo, the people were offered a choice: human rights and dignity, or cheaper eggs. And lo, the people chose the eggs. And lo! A plague descended upon the chickens.

And the people blamed DEI.

Yep.

Their regime targeted “students, educators, trade unionists, writers, journalists, artists, left-wing activists, members of the clergy and alleged sympathizers.” Not just the guerillas fighting them. 2 of 5

I just learned about the death flights, torture prisons, and the way they would wait for pregnant prisoners to give birth before killing them and adopting out the child. 3 of 5

Four Decades After the Fall of Argentina’s Dictatorship, a Fight Over the Country’s Darkest Chapter Is Reopening Grievous Wounds Inside the fight to memorialize victims of the military junta that ruled over the South American nation in the 1970s and '80s

This article is shocking. While their situation isn’t a direct parallel to ours, it’s definitely worth a read. 5 of 5

I’ve seen a lot of comparisons between today and Nazi Germany, but nothing about Argentina. They also faced extreme inequality before falling under a military coup. This was in 1976. Less than 50 years ago. 1 of 5

I love this so much!

At the inauguration, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wore a distinctive collar adorned with cowrie shells, which are believed to offer protection from evil in African traditions.

This choice mirrors the late Justice Ginsburg’s practice of using collars to convey a message.
