“The album took almost seven years to write. We had three songs in the bag, but we didn’t know what was going to happen with them. We finally decided we couldn’t let this stuff die on the vine.”
Lovely speaking with Vexine all about their new album in my latest @styleweekly.com piece
“If we don’t have equal access to music, we risk not hearing from so many voices in the music world. Just think about how many people we’ve never gotten to hear from because they didn’t have access to music education.“ My latest for Style Weekly.
I am so freaking proud of my husband
We have so many amazing film collectives here!
And that’s what we’s appreciates about @donatobomb.bsky.social
I always feel a little sad this time of year and this year especially has been brutal, but tonight I’m also reminded of the people that helped me through. A text, a coffee, a high five, a like or reply to a post… none of it goes unnoticed. Thanks for making my life a little brighter. Happy holidays.
Not feeling particularly festive this season so here’s a playlist of sad holiday songs.
Another year older. It was a good day. Thank you for the nice birthday messages.

Today marks the 3 year anniversary of my book RVA playlist and the 1 year anniversary of the Deluxe Edition. Thank you to everyone who has bought a copy, told me they liked it, shared it with friends, and harassed me about when another book is coming out. It meant the world to me.
Local hip-hop is so under appreciated. Love what these guys are doing.
Bill was such a force for the music community. I hosted “Global A Go-Go” for him once and was terrified because I knew nothing about world music. He told me that world music was just “local music from someplace else.” I did a world music tour on my show and it’s probably one of my favorites ever.
@rvaplaylist.bsky.social and I won horror trivia tonight! I like being rewarded for leaving the house!
Saw it last night and loved it. So much fun.
So caught up with horror film fests, I forgot to share my latest Style Weekly interview with Mexi-Tonk band Ramona and the Holy Smokes.
Another incredible weekend at @brooklynhorror.bsky.social. I love this annual tradition of being surrounded by the horror loving community.
It was great to see you! We had the best time hanging out yesterday.
If you’re not listening to Dead Billionaires, you really should get on that.
Excited to be at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival this weekend. Come hang with me on Saturday for @certifiedforgot.bsky.social as they interview special guest Tina Romero.
For the past few years, the team at Brooklyn Horror have kept a slot in their schedule for @certifiedforgot.bsky.social — even as they’ve grown. It would mean a lot if you could help us spread the word and fill the house next weekend.
Happy birthday Vek! Enjoy being 25!
A huge honor to moderate the @styleweekly.com FWD:RVA panel about how to move Richmond’s music scene forward. Some brutally honest discussion about the challenges our community faces. Thanks to everyone who joined us.
This Thursday, I’m hosting @styleweekly.com FWD:RVA panel on the future of Richmond’s music scene. I’ll be joined by @theauricular.bsky.social @tymeach.bsky.social DJ B-Rice and Madi Thompson. Plus music from Tyler and @deadbillionaires.bsky.social following the panel. Register for free: fwdrva.com
Another @styleweekly.com piece this week on the new @willoverman.bsky.social album “Stranger” out this Friday (plus an in-store show at Plan 9.
Alt rockers The Mitras calls it quits with one final show at the Broadberry this weekend. My latest in @styleweekly.com
“Goddammit, we’re a GREAT niche horror publication” - CF’s new marketing tagline.
Thank you! One of my recent favorites to write.
I’m a firm believer in horror movies being very helpful in dealing with mental health struggles. I talked with advocacy and support group Victims and Villains about using pop culture and horror to address mental health. (And their film festival this weekend)
I pulled together a list of (almost) all of the local music coming out this fall!
It’s been such a long tiring day for me that I misunderstood this post and was like “Congrats! Wait… Matthew(s), no! Ohhhh…”
