I think "the left" just has a memory good enough to stretch to 2004 www.theguardian.com/media/2004/m...

This is exactly what it sounds like: a plan to implement tapering and discontinuation of HRT for any trans person in prison, regardless of how long they've been on it or what surgeries they've had.

This is medical torture, and will kill people.

As a historian, I'd just like to remind the politicians who follow me that it is not, in fact, 2003 anymore and the current GOP war in the Middle East is not, in fact, even remotely popular.

So if you're a weathervane who just tries to do what's already popular, full-throated opposition is it!

β€œWe cannot say that the United States’ actions are against international law, but we condemn Iran’s retaliatory actions as against international law,” is neither a coherent nor a compelling position.

tonight I'm learning the New York Times is just a blameless smol bean that's not responsible for what it chooses to publish, really eye opening stuff happening in the ol timeline

Oh, hey, I almost forgot. The Republican Congress certainly did!

We launched a war with Iran two weeks into a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security.

THAT IS SO WISE!

The last decade of the NYT opinion page:

It definitely was getting better for a minute. We can get there again!

It's always the dumbest people who accuse the left of being born yesterday.

Remember: If you are a billionaire, a wealth tax and cap are for your *own protection.* The income tax rate at the end of a pitchfork is 100%.

every time i mention freedom fries to my students when discussing the global war on terror era, they think i’m joking. and there will be the one older student nodding in agreement

This is a widely accepted norm journalists are taught to convince themselves they believe in, but it's not at all obvious why a publication should have to publish an op-ed merely because it represents the president's point of view. That's a media market and branding decision major papers have made.

Osita is as usual right. Just want to add that it would be *entirely reasonable* as well as *actually moral* for leading media orgs to respond to trump's attack on the constitution by *openly opposing Trump.* 1

If a bad policy is in the news, it's the newspaper's job to point out that the policy is bad! The goal of the newspaper is truth, not regime propaganda.

Today in β€œneither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party”

Maybe this model was defensible when we had 2 mainstream pro-democracy parties. It doesn’t work with a far right authoritarian party that just lies. You become an amplifier for propaganda.

The thing is that even if you took at face value that he didn't realize what he had on his skin (super obviously a lie!) it showed that he had terrible discernment and judgement, which are the things that you want in an elected official. It was disqualifying even beyond the obvious Nazism.

02.03.2026 04:29 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

apparently this needs to be stated explicitly: this same sentiment applies to elected/wannabe elected dems too. I was done with platner the day the story of his nazi tattoo broke and I think that was obvious from my response to that story, which included phrases like "extreme, disqualifying doubt"

Imagine having one of our best living actors respond to you winning an award their presenting this way. A small, sweet moment. Good for Michael B. Jordan.

I remember realizing Americans sided with guns post Columbine and that bent my mind. Access to guns got even worse and the media turned shooters into celebrities and now my kid does active shooter drills in elementary schools. Imagine kids saying "active shooter drill" out loud like it's nothing

Like, I just want to post silly videogame nonsense and stupid rec league soccer updates, and in this day alone we had a government-approved Charlie Kirk banner at the DoE, multiple US service members dead, and an update that the ghouls who started this war have no fucking idea what they’re doing.

This put them in a double bind. If they said Yes, then they weren’t serious about being a lawyer and would quit in a few years. If they said No, then they were *shudder* UNWOMANLY.

They put in a lot of thought about how to answer this, and then they all practiced it in front of mirrors. It was:

Once upon a time I was in a conversation that included several people who were at Harvard Law School in the 1950s. The two men recalled that there was a thing called Ladies’ Day, when some (not all) profs only called on the tiny number of women students, and only asked about porn cases and similar.
