📣 Introducing Cafe Calton, opening June 2025
New partner Cafe Calton is joining our special site in the City Observatory this summer. The vibrant day-to-evening café will offer morning coffees, hearty breakfasts, small plates and healthy takeaway options.
A newly commissioned performance by Azpilicueta and artist and choreographer Janice Parker on Friday 22 August will connect the themes of the tapestry to Collective’s site on Calton Hill. The exhibition will present related drawings and costumes from the performance for @edartfest’s closing weekend
The mixed-media installation references subjects including war, food economies, collective action and women-led global rights movements, including the 1917 Potato Riots in Amsterdam, and the grass roots movement of #NiUnaMenos.
The exhibition centres around a central monumental human-scale Jacquard tapestry entitled ‘Potatoes, Riots and Other Imaginaries’ (2021). Accompanying the tapestry will be a sound piece that introduces whispered gossip and glimpses of songs from social demonstrations.
