Please share this thread. It is important that political scientists, in Europe and across the world, understand why EPSS exists and why we are encouraging people to attend our inaugural conference, in Belfast next June.

Yes, I came across your super article only recently. Our article (SSNR # 5072375 or my website) uses these GSS data on majors to produce a continuous variable tapping human-centeredness of someone's education to explain a range of political attitudes. Results consistent with yours!

Super graph! Level of education is a strong predictor for Gal/ Tan voting. In other work we show that this does not exhaust the effect of the education cleavage. What people study (field of study) matters too. See my website for more hooghe.web.unc.edu

Great new book, highly recommended for party and election scholars. We just read it in my PhD parties class paired with Lipset/Rokkan and @liesbethooghe.bsky.social/Marks on transnational cleavage.

We find that (1) education structures voting for GAL and TAN parties in Western Europe; (2) social structuration is as high as for classic social democratic parties in the 1950s; (3) education structures also Republicans and Democrats. Open access, and on our homepages.

The real challenge of our time indeed -- losing the modern state (and rule of law) to patrimonialism (and strongmanism).

This article on "(North Carolina) Republican pastors and the use of force" was a COVID passion that is out in Religion & Politics, and -- let's say-- remains topical. With thanks to my co-authors Stephanie Shady and Gary Marks. North Carolina, you're very much on my mind.
