Hermes presses his forehead against Antares', whom in turn holds him close, arms and legs wrapped around Hermes' body. The room is dark, with only a bit of light reached Antares' face. Valerian flowers are spread across the bed. Historically, the valerian root has been used in ancient medicine to reduce anxiety and facilitate sleep. In medieval times in some Nordic countries, it was placed in the wedding clothes of bridegrooms to ward off the envy of elves. On the side, a motive depicts a white snake coiling around a bird of paradise with two red passionflowers blooming from them. A variant of the passionflower, the lilac passiflora incarnata has been used to treat anxiety and facilitate sleep. This alludes to the anxieties surrounding intimacy for Antares, and how he in turn help allievate Hermes' own struggles.
