π€£ truth!!
07.09.2025 03:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There are several great articles in this Quarter's Newsletter from the @gpn-org.bsky.social about work, fears, and a positive perspective in your #Geospatial career. Join up and take a look. thegpn.org #gischat
14.08.2025 13:13 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Ahaha that'd be me
16.07.2025 00:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I use Esri stuff at work and QGIS at home and for my consulting work. I don't plan to spend a penny on COTS again π
16.07.2025 00:27 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Not open source as in software, open source as in intelligence. Being that it's publicly available (if even if closed source code) it qualifies as open source intelligence
15.06.2025 16:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well done! This is fascinating. I'd be curious to see this same graphic, but for the American East, and how the two compare.
13.06.2025 02:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I definitely will! Trying really hard not to impose GIS on her, it's a struggle... π
19.04.2025 02:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0About to graduate UCD, from the EPAP program. She's just getting started with QGIS βΊοΈ
18.04.2025 20:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Awesome thank you. Btw my daughter saw some of your materials on QGIS today in one of her classes
18.04.2025 04:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't "hate" Pro, but when you compare your ROI (ArcPro vs QGIS) Pro looks like a rip-off, especially considering there are tasks that I have to do in QGIS because they'll force Pro to crash π€·ββοΈ
18.04.2025 02:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Since we're talking about Pro and QGIS in the same space... I'm convinced that esri 'borrowed' some of the best UX aspects of QGIS for Pro. Pro is an improvement over ArcMap but takes some time to get used to and seems to be more of a resource hog too. If it weren't for my day job I'd be 100% QGIS π
18.04.2025 02:30 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@micheletobias.bsky.social I love this!! I'd love to do this for GIS Day in November (I'm in Napa) and would really like to learn more about your workshop π€©
18.04.2025 02:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes! So that's helpful, and plus I'm going to want to eventually choose my own colors anyway. Half the time I'm going to process and transform the loaded data into something else, so I don't really care what color it loads as, just as long as it's discernable from everything else!
06.04.2025 17:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It says you can't be messaged π
07.03.2025 16:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sean, this sounds awesome. Would love the code if you could π
07.03.2025 14:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ahaha so true! I've found that the most proficient ArcGIS user is someone who is good in QGIS as well. Ok, and maybe a little Python too ..
26.02.2025 13:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I switched to Linux and QGIS years ago and absolutely love it. Never going back!!!
11.02.2025 07:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Curious: who else works in the esri ecosystem by day (because day job!) and open source pretty much everywhere else?
To clarify: my GIS platform is 99.9% esri with my employer, but my consulting and gig work is 100% QGIS and SAGA. Wondering how many others do this?
Knowing both has worked out best for me. Like it or not, knowledge of esri products makes you more employable, at least in the US. But I prefer to work in QGIS, and there are times when ArcGIS Pro can't handle certain processing-heavy tasks but QGIS will do them easily π€·ββοΈ
