Reductions in particulate pollution will disproportionately benefit people with respiratory conditions and limited lung capacity, and those who are immunocompromised. Congestion pricing is a huge win for public health and an especially huge win for people with disabilities.

In New York City, Congestion Pricing Leads to Marked Drop in Pollution
Particulate pollution in the air down a whopping 22% in NYC’s congestion pricing zone.
Not only are the streets less congested, but so are our lungs.

Ed Roberts & the Rolling Quads established the key concept of independent living for ppl with #disabilities. Among other things, successful independent living creates a foundation for personal climate resilience & gives people with disabilities agency over their own sustainability & planning.

OTOH, #climate action can disproportionately benefit PWDs. Just take #urbanism. PWDs have low car ownership, so urban density & good public transit give us easier access to goods and services, including ones specifically for PWDs. And apartments are more accessible than single-family homes.

2nd & 3rd level #climate impacts also hit ppl w #disabilities hard. For example, both shrinking economies & climate austerity will harm PWDs, who have disproportionately low employment, education, and income, and who have greater job precarity & use of government benefits vs able-bodied folks.

When #disasters hit, PWDs are an outsized share of casualties & face unique hurdles re: transportation, shelter, access to services & healthcare, and equitable recovery. Meanwhile, extreme heat harms PWDs, who have lower quality housing & HVAC on avg, & often have thermoregulation issues.

Rondo Energy deploys Southeast Asia’s ‘first industrial Heat Battery’
Rondo and SCG Cleanergy have commenced operation of Southeast Asia's first industrial thermal BESS at SCG's cement plant in Thailand.
Heavy-industry sectors like cement have long struggled to decarbonise because their processes require very high temperatures.
That’s why the new Rondo Energy heat-battery project in Thailand is such a big deal - powering a cement plant with low-carbon steam.

This is Alice's friend Sandy Ho, posting.
Per Alice's wishes, this message is being shared at the time of her passing.
Hi everyone, it looks like I ran out of time. I have so many dreams that wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you. There are a few in progress that might come to fruition in a few years if things work out. I did not ever imagine I would live to this age and end up a writer, editor, activist, and more. As a kid riddled with insecurity and internalized ableism, I could not see a path forward. It was thanks to friendships and some great teachers who believed in me that I was able to fight my way out of miserable situations into a place where I finally felt comfortable in my skin.
We need more stories about us and our culture.
You all, we all, deserve the everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don't let the bastards grind you down. I love you all.
You were incredible, Alice Wong, and it was a blessing to have collaborated with you on projects, to have read your words and to have heard your voice, as full of life and passion and joy and rage as it was.
You made a difference—so much of a difference.
Rest always in peace, and always in power.

The opposition party leader just received one of the most brutal ratios I've ever seen, and it indicates the justified anger of Americans that have been betrayed by him after fighting so hard during the special elections, they virtually granted him a mandate.

the thing that upsets me about this the most is that Dems had all the momentum, republicans were reeling, and we were getting intra-GOP fighting over the filibuster, all while voters were blaming republicans for their incompetence
this destroys all of this. just a total gut punch

What the Huge AWS Outage Reveals About the Internet
Amazon Web Services experienced DNS resolution issues on Monday morning, taking down wide swaths of the web—and highlighting a longstanding weakness in the internet's infrastructure.
Reliance on central cloud services has, in may ways, improved cybersecurity and stability around the world. But this standardisation comes with major tradeoffs—the platforms become a single point of failure for large swaths of critical services.

Beyond race, I'm glad activists here mentioned the attack on urban representation. This would turn the House into another Senate, heavily biased toward rural voters. A Tennessee with no representatives from Memphis or Nashville, or a Missouri with no representatives from St. Louis or Kansas City.
