I think there are several related issues: better communications is one, related is media drama/focus on doomer news is another. But the biggest are the dramatic increase of population/infrastructure in vulnerable areas, and the collapse of governance. By comparison change in wx hazards is minor.

Afghanistan has been fragile for so long, and unfortunately any aid is still tangled up in the politics over the Taliban taking over (and the train wreck of USAID/DFID/EU funding). But neighboring countries are trying to help, the world is figuring out how to do without us ...

Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? – Chicago (Leonid & Friends cover)
It's that time of year again, when politicians demonstrate both their hubris and stupidity by thinking they can manipulate time, and so as we spend hours resetting/checking our devices and clocks, and days resetting our biological clocks, we all want to know ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB-n...

Assessing Hurricane Melissa: Climate Change and Probability Challenges
Explore the complexities of hurricane predictions and climate change as we analyze the impact of Hurricane Melissa .
If you see references to Enki in the same articles saying #Melissa is 4x more likely due to climate change, note we had nothing to do with that research. We are only doing economic impact estimates on Melissa. That's not to say CC isn't a factor, it's complicated: enkiops.org/2025/10/30/w...

Hurricane Melissa: Catastrophic Category Five Threat to Jamaica
Hurricane Melissa rapidly intensified, now a Category Five storm, threatening Jamaica and surrounding areas with catastrophic impacts. Stay updated.
Enki generally doesn't use language like this because it's rarely warranted. Words matter - and words like "devastating" and "catastrophic" are often over-used in the media. This time they are the right words to warn of what is likely to come over the next 48 hours. enkiops.org/2025/10/27/m...

(soon to be) Hurricane Melissa: Devastating Forecast for Jamaica
Melissa is intensifying rapidly, posing a grave threat to Jamaica and Haiti.
This looks really bad for #Jamaica and #Haiti. The devastation could be worse because the three big donor nations (US, UK, and EU) have dismantled a lot of their international aid mechanisms. Details on the blog ... enkiops.org/2025/10/25/m...

Tropical Storm Melissa: A Potential Catastrophic Hurricane Ahead
Tropical Storm Melissa is forecasted to become a Category 4 hurricane, potentially causing catastrophic flooding in Jamaica and Haiti.
It's bad. Ocean temps can support whatever intensity the atmosphere will allow, so even Cat 5 theoretically possible. But there's lots of other factors, proximity to land (Jamaica, Cuba, DR have mountains high enough to disrupt the circulation, etc. New post up: enkiops.org/2025/10/24/m...

Fengshen hits Philippines, Turmoil in Madagascar, Atlantic Angst.
Oh, man, the AI totally screwed up the SEO summary and I'm too lazy to fix it! Guess you'll have to actually read the blog.
AI strikes again. But seriously Fengshen has caused deaths in the Philippines, and cyclone (hurricane) season is starting in Madagascar, which just had a coup. Atlantic probably not a serious threat but as we know even weak storms can cause tragedy. enkiops.org/2025/10/19/s...
