Equally uninformed about music, art and science but likely to post on any regardless. ECM nerd and Gerhard Richter obsessive. If I'm playing music: yes, it's supposed to sound like that.

β€œWe have had the police knocking on every door,” said a dog walker and resident of Dean, as a helicopter buzzed overhead. β€œThey wanted the names of everybody living there and details of their social media. I know several people refused. We asked them if they were protecting us, or Vance. At least they were honest and said it is for him and that it will all be passed on to the American security people.”

Buried in The Observer yesterday was this: UK police knocking on doors demanding details of social media accounts of people, to pass to a foreign government, simply because they happen to live near where a US politician wanted to have a holiday observer.co.uk/news/nationa...

Much as I enjoyed the novel, Rendezvous with Rama has more than one paragraph that fits that description exactly and registered high on the cringe scale when I reread it last year.

Biddy Baxter in the Blue Peter office.

We are sad to report that longtime Blue Peter Editor Biddy Baxter has died at the age of 92. We salute a true pioneer, who navigated changing times in the television industry with instinct, tenacity and style.

Not exactly, but the exhibition starts in late October, so I'm guessing about six weeks before that: end of August to early September, I'd think.

I was pretty irked at having to go and buy another DVD so I could watch the set I'd just bought πŸ˜•

A large filled circle of white and grey flint on the floor of a gallery, with a painting filling the wall behind it. The painting is black for the lower two thirds, while the upper third is whitewashed and has visible hand swirls in the wash. The wash has dripped along the width of the paiting, causing white streaks into the back area below it.

A framed UK Ordinance Survey map, centred on Cerne Abbas. A circular area in the centre of the map has all of the roads and tracks filled in with black ink. Below the black design is a photo of the Cerne Abbas giant, a figure approximately 55 metres tall, cut into turf and filled with chalk. Above the design is a printed label stating "A six day walk, over all roads, lanes and double tracks inside a six mile wide circle centred on the giant of Cerne Abbas."

A text work by Richard Long. Various words and phrases, including "shimmering air, slugs, full moon touching the horizon" and many others are arranged in a variety of directions but confined within a circular boundary.

Same here. I bought the dvd set after hearing positive things about it and was baffled until I realised "Episode one" was three hours into the series!

Terrible comms - for one thing, what does '....stop at nothing....' actually mean? Reform voters won't believe it, it will be ignored by Tories and formerly tribal Labour types like me will find it repugnant.

He walked past Cage 3, stopped briefly to look at it and said "It looks like the news."

I'm here having a look at these before they disappear to a retrospective in Paris beginning in late October, which I hope to get to. I've just been completely taken aback by a comment from a passing child, who seemed to grasp more about one of these pictures than anyone else in here.

Floored. Kid walks past; maybe eight, ten years old. Looks at Cage 3. "It looks like the news", he said.
Fair play, young man, fair play.

Taking some time with Richter's Cage paintings at Tate Modern before they disappear to Paris until next year. Only three people have come in the room so far and said "I could do that", or similar. Guess what: you couldn't.

RIP Jim Lovell
β€˜When I circled the moon and looked back at Earth, my outlook on life and my viewpoint of Earth changed... Earth is a spaceship, just like Apollo & just like Apollo, the crew must learn to live & work together. We must learn to manage the resources of this world with new imagination.’
