OpenAI faces 7 lawsuits claiming ChatGPT drove people to suicide, delusions OpenAI is facing seven lawsuits claiming ChatGPT drove people to suicide and harmful delusions even when they had no prior mental health issues.

Six people died from tampered Tylenol and the company pulled 30 million bottles off the market. ChatGPT is accused of urging seven people towards suicide, and OpenAI just assures us they’re still working out the kinks. Billions in investment, zero accountability.

A White House official said Thursday night that Trump approved the pardons for Casada and Cothren because the Department of Justice under Trump’s Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, β€œsignificantly over-prosecuted these individuals for a minor issue.”

The official spoke on background to discuss a pardon that had not yet been publicly released, but said the case against Casada and Cothren involved constituent mailers, which were billed at competitive prices, and that the case was brought despite prosecutors not having received a complaint from legislators.

The scheme also resulted in a net profit loss of less than $5,000, said the official, who noted that the case featured an armed raid, perp walk and the potential for lengthy prison terms β€” things often more appropriate for federal cases involving frauds worth multiple millions of dollars.

Why is the Associated Press letting a White House official speak anonymously about why Trump pardoned a corrupt Tennessee Republican politician? And for 3 whole paragraphs, providing the defense that he only got $5,000 from his illegal scheme, which makes it OK In Trumpworld.

California cracks down on water theft but spares data centers from disclosing how much they use Gov. Newsom vetoed a bill that would have required data centers to report their projected water use when applying for a business license.

First sentence says it all: "Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed legislation that would have required data centers to report how much water they use." Read the rest of the story though. from @ianjames.bsky.social: www.latimes.com/environment/...

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

The Times has to issue a correction here. An Executive order can’t β€œrequire” any such thing. Calling it β€˜an aggressive push to catch” fraud is bad editorial judgment. The first part is demonstrably false. Those who have any voice to the Times need to demand this. Might as well say pigs fly.

AI is such a perfect distillation of capitalism: a massive dedication of resources to make and maintain a product that no one needs, prompting companies to desperately try to create demand they can then supply, ultimately deteriorating our ability to think, create, or explore.

It’s so interesting to see these urgent exhortations to reestablish decorum. I have not seen evidence of a β€œcoarsening” of American society. If anything, the opposite: I’ve seen thousands of individuals asserting their humanity and protesting the indignity of the system UHC profits from.
