Not sure exactly where these are all going but someone's obviously keen.

Japan & Taiwan have a whole bunch of NPPs standing idle, quite a few could be restarted very quickly.

Australia have spare LNG export capacity.

Ukrainian minehunters begin vital training with Royal Navy in Portsmouth Minehunters UNS Mariupol and Melitopol sailed into Portsmouth Naval Base yesterday – and will call the base their home while they undergo extensive training in and around the UK in the coming months.

Guess who's got some spare minesweepers

Britain boosting production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles The UK will expand production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles at MBDA’s Stevenage site under a new missile cooperation pact with France.

Expect to see more of this. The new ones are fully ITAR free so don't need permission from the USA for targeting

It's a bit more complicated than that. Excess profits get recycled via CFD. This system helps smooth price spikes so that the consumer directly benefits from cheaper renewables

Net-Zero is in fact already *saving* UK bill payers a lot of money

I think we are on the same page. It's the struggle with the very real (and much less than ideal) constraints of holding office I was referring to. I wouldn't put Greens in the same class as Reform obviously.

Here we go with TACO, but will Iran play ball?
Next stop Cuba, mark my words

The Greens will likely fall in the same trap as Reform here IMO. Councils are a thankless task & voters for 'change' are bound to be disappointed.

100% agree

Replacing boilers is a continuous cycle, and installer skills need to be ramped up. We can't afford to defer.

Hard to disagree

But we are not an isolated gas market like Japan, we are quite well connected to the European gas network. And we are basically the sole gas transit route for Ireland, which has huge US political implications.

That's a very telling titbit, thanks.

I'd take this as an opportunity to further close the spark gap.

No building is unsuitable for a heatpump, but it's essential to find a competent installer.

Heat Geek's installer approval scheme has high standards.

+1 what Dan said...

Choosing the right installer is, by far, the most important decision when buying a Heat Pump. Having a competent (or not) installer has much more impact on outcome than product selection.

Prepare to be shocked at the coming demand destruction

In the 70s we didn't have China churning out EVs & Solar panels faster than the world can buy them.

Japan has at least 7 Nuclear Plants that they could fire up in perhaps weeks. Twice that with more time.

It's worth noting here the many LNG speculators that got burned, because they did not anticipate the scale of Europe's shift away from gas.

Unlike the 1970s this is no longer a single-sided trade

We can predict rapid demand adjustment e.g. less travel

But medium term, much demand destruction will be permanent. In many EM power systems there is a straight swap diesel for solar. See also EV which China is overproducing. I could go on...

Current issue seems to be that most PHEV are company cars (due to tax incentives) and their drivers rarely bother to plug-in because they are not paying for the fuel.

In private hands, user behavior is likely to shift because it's the driver that gets cost savings from maximizing electric running.

2028 tax changes will reshape the market:

1) Fleets dump PHEV en-mass due to punitive BiK & mile tax
2) PHEV residual values drop, undercutting sales of new
3) Fleet buys of new PHEV cease, due to sharp deprecation
4) Gov. tells motor industry to quit bitching & sell the BEVs the market now 'wants'

Ironically, being a major LNG exporter, Australia is one of the few winners from this ridiculous crisis.

These types are all loosing their shit precisely *because* they know Starmer's stance will be be extremely popular.

It's very telling to me that the Sun is saying very little, and the Torygraph had a front page article about 'Trump's war' increasing UK mortgage costs. Both following the wind.

FT comment section has long been a target of tribal rants

IMO it's because FT style is mostly factual & without political slant. Those conditioned to more partisan takes often get very defensive. OFC plenty must be astroturfing too

It's mostly Reform/MAGA; now we see here Dubai set getting touchy
