I've spent the evening writing monsters for T&T: A New Age. Nobody on the team has seen what I've done yet, because they're asleep, but that also means nobody is able to tell me not to talk about it in public.
So let's talk about them.
I'm not going today, so my #Unpub is over
I had a great experience and wanted to reflect on it some as a ttrpg designer
micro tests, 15-20 mins w/ feedback, really worked. Doing more of these kind of events would be cool! Big thanks to Heather of @9thlevelgames.bsky.social for organizing

I think it's one of the most innovative questions being explored right now in our spaces.
Most of my early design and play work was experience design, so that's not a denigration.
I think I am one of the few folks in RPGs who draws that line in the specific way I do.
Yeah, I really want to see how Fragmented Memories bangs out since I think it's the most accessible iteration I have looked at.
I expect a high probability I will think of them more as experiences than games. The other strong likelihood is that they burst into a new hybridized form of play. 1/2
Policy proposal: If the United States has overthrown a democratically elected leader of your nation, you should be allowed to vote in US elections and you should have free and unfettered access to our borders.
Which is to say, abolish borders.
I am really excited for HARDCODED to get further along because I am not currently convinced if I think it's a "game" or not.
However, we have only talked 30000 foot view on it, and my perspective is based on those conversations.
Read this full of enthusiasm.
Oh you mean @betterlegends.bsky.social coded shit?
The most bold, and yet most wise, of choices.
our art by @oxsago.bsky.social is still in progress but here is a little sneaky peek. It's looking AMAZING.
Just a reminder for anyone who doesn't know.
Tony is a "System Dosen't Matter" wonk and is not to be trusted about... anything really.
Get out there and steal rogues!
@clearkeep.bsky.social
how dare you!
To claify, I am fine if other folks want to do either of those other things, I (Tony) just would not, and will admit they are all just abstractions.

I don't know why one would argue rather than just point at some examples.
That said, generally I disagree with setting/context being good words to slash together and without specific examples.
I also don't think either actually should be classified as part of "rules" so much as part of "play.

How dare you be so considerate and open minded to the diverse needs of the reader and the text!?!?!
I *teach role-playing at a university* as do many of my colleagues.
None of this is new; role-playing & simulation have deep ties to higher ed, pre-dating D&D.
However, we teach it as a folk art that belongs to *everyone.* It activates collaborative creative impulses that are quite useful.
Sam is ruining things by inviting self-reflection again!
My only take on this is that another category of book does the same(/similar thing as RPGs, and that is a technical or instructional manual
Both of these are designed as clear reference for active use
So, what kind of book are you writing?
