me working to solve the rising sea levels
things that actually scare me as a dc resident:
- all drivers, from any state
- unprotected bike lanes
- ahead-of-schedule buses
- “single tracking”
- getting on the metro in the wrong direction
- standing on the right
Washington DC has 702,000 people, is 45% Black and has 0 senators
Wyoming has 590,000 people, is 86% white and has 2 senators
DC needs a state with proper representation, not a military takeover
my favorite thing about taking Amtrak from Union Station is having to catch a whisper of which track your NE Regional will be on from a staff person before they announce it on the boards
8 years in DC and today I finally accidentally got on yellow instead of green

it’s so cool how almost everything is a scam and is simulatenously killing us
You know what works better than thoughts and prayers? A functioning government.
Abortion is one of the most intimate and fundamental liberties: the freedom to chart the course of one’s own life, unburdened by the coercion of law, custom, or other people’s opinions. This Independence Day, join me in donating to abortion funds. Find a fund here: abortionfunds.org/find-a-fund/
I was scowling the entire time actual children set them off feet from my apartment. Meanwhile when I was in Georgia the other weekend you can buy them from a trailer in the Walmart parking lot after getting your groceries! 🙄
amtrak has gotten so expensive that, upon booking a roundtrip ticket DC > NWK for August, my card was declined because capital one thought it was a fraudulent purchase
extra emotional over having passed a gathering of people on roller blades, presumably waiting to embark on a group roller blade ride. 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
instead of therapy have you tried taking a long walk in 100 degree heat while shedding some tears to the goo goo dolls
Let’s stop the wars and I mean ALL of them,,, it’s horrible and I hate what’s going on! This is not what unity is all about!!
my credit card incorrectly categorizes DC Metro tap to pay and it makes me laugh every time
Lately it’s that a lot of people are going to die in the next big disaster in the United States.
my coworker leaning over to tell me (who is no longer on twitter) about today’s donald / elon drama
my dentist this morning: your teeth should only be touching each other when you’re eating
me, through clenched teeth: what
channeled the spirit of my grandmother and destroyed the rest of my family in dominos
the TSA agent at BWI asked me if I was under cover because I’m wearing all black. I panicked and said yes
I do not want fried oyster mushrooms, I want a HOT DOG covered in MUSTARD
Nats Park getting rid of true vegetarian hot dogs in favor of “fancier” options would be the worst thing to happen to me, if we were in normal times
me, very much not catholic beyond baptism, absolutely loving all the pope content. nice to have a global experience be fun for a change
petition for public transit vehicles to automatically disable people’s phone speakers
broadly concerned about how tools like chatgpt erode our critical thinking skills, and what this means long term for cognitive function and, ultimately, decline
I have been trying to go on morning walks before work to get some outside time and it brings me some beautiful flowers :-)
on my third amtrak of the week and an older man sat next to me who reminded me so much of my grandfather. he was chatty and it was really nice. also we saw a big rainbow over baltimore 🥹
Car drivers are all about socialism when it comes to the true costs of operating a private automobile.
like google maps has speed limits in it. your car shouldn’t let you go more than 10mph over the limit. nobody gets a ticket. less traffic police needed. safer streets. less revenue, maybe… but seems like cities are already struggling to collect fines.
you can’t change behavior by *hoping* people want to avoid fines and/or will pay them. you have to make it difficult or impossible to actually choose bad behavior. this applies to… all kinds of things.
also it can’t be that hard to install speed limiters in all new cars that sync to local limits?
