Left panel: Immunofluorescent microscopy showing that Mtch mutant intestine cells (blue nuclei that lack red dye) fail to clear mitochondria marker protein ATP5A (green). Right panel: Transmission electron microscopy image of a mitochondrion engulfed by an autophagosome of a Drosophila intestine enterocyte.

Mitophagy is critical for cellular health & associated with multiple diseases. @baehreckelab.bsky.social &co show that the OMM protein Mtch regulates #mitophagy during #Drosophila intestinal development, by modulating the insertion of mitophagy receptor BNIP3 @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/45uyBhg

Published an op-ed for @cnn.com: “Nobel laureate: I owe America my success. Today, its scientific future is in danger.”
A personal reflection on what’s at stake as science funding gets slashed. I’d be grateful if you could amplify both in and beyond the science world.

In Early-Phase Pancreatic Cancer Clinical Trial, Investigational mRNA Vaccine Induces Sustained Immune Activity in Small Patient Group Learn how MSK researchers are deploying mRNA vaccines against pancreatic cancer.

Vinod's team's work could have saved my wife's life, and I hope this and others like it will make a huge difference with patients with seemingly untreatable deadly diseases. This needs to be able to continue. www.mskcc.org/news/can-mrn...

NIH Grants Fueled $95 Billion In FY 2024 Economic Activity, Finds New Report National Institutes of Health grants generated almost $95 billion in economic activity nationwide in FY 2024 according to a new report by United for Medical Research.

New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024.

That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved.

Show me a better investment than that.

Opinion/Guest column: Gutting NIH a disaster in the marking for research, local economy Less research equates to less business between the university and these Worcester companies, spreading the pain far beyond campus borders.

Taking a cue from @cantlonlab.bsky.social, I have written an op-ed for my local newspaper about the impact of the NIH funding chaos. I'd appreciate it if you read and share. #NIH #Research #Science #Worcester

I’m realizing that when we talk about studies on social media or in convo, we rarely mention NIH. People aren’t making the connection.

So when posting or talking about some amazing study that was funded by the NIH, be sure to refer to it as an “NIH-funded study.”

Elon Musk tweet: We spent the wekend feeding USAID

Imagine you were the richest man in the world. You could have anything you wanted, go anywhere you wished, do whatever took you fancy. How would you spend your weekend? Depriving the poorest people in the world of food and healthcare and boasting about it?

I do feel this Dan, and as Mark said also feel betrayed by our leadership. In discussions with some Canadian friends we seem to agree that we can’t allow a crazy leader impact our interactions and friendships, and certainly not the science that unites us.
