He didn’t. I posted myself on X after watching it that it wasn’t a good enough answer, and hoped he would get educated about it. But takes like yours or worse on this app are way out of proportion with what his actual answer was, even more so knowing how he has defended trans people since forever.

The Sec of transportation that made historic progress standing up for equity, consumers and passenger with disabilities. Who put federal dollars for the first time ever to fix infrastructure divisions created by federal dollars in the past. It’s almost like he’s a person and not a cartoon villain.

Some of the takes however -especially from cis people- are clearly using Pete giving an answer that didn’t diffuse an uninformed premise forcefully enough, to shit on him, and using trans people to get back at him over previous political grudges. My replies are not for conspiracies, insults or lies.

Stats about trans people in sport: “Trans people are estimated to make up 1-2% of the population of the United States; however, trans people make up less than less than 0.002% (10/500,000) of US college athletes, and even fewer of recent Olympians (0.001%) identify as trans.”

Trans people in the US are facing loss of identity, security, healthcare, dignity, & community. Sport is an abysmal issue blown up to push a narrative. We know that Pete cares about trans people but he clearly doesn’t have enough data about it. I trust he’ll educate himself. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

🧵Pete is a grown-ass man who can handle criticism if he misses the mark -which luckily is very rare because he’s a thoughtful, erudite guy.
Instead of shutting down real concerns from certain minorities to defend him, we can listen & provide evidence of his work, values & ideas.

Academic discussions of freedom & democracy can be had after establishing those facts.

When it comes to the airline industry, Sean Duffy and Pete Buttigieg are very much not the same kind of transportation secretary.

You might think this is some kind of measured, intellectual response but it’s just homophobia and transphobia. You’re publicly arguing for bigotry. Same when saying this about any other category of people.

I’d like to watch a conversation between Pete Buttigieg and Colbert after the show is done. Both out of their respective “offices” free to talk about anything, and they’ve always had great rapport.

Is this the beginning of the countdown to President JD Vance? Because I’ve never seen Pete Buttigieg dislike someone more, and I’d welcome him getting rid of Vance in 2028.

It’s not rhetoric. Engaging on a daily basis, calling reps in Congress, talking to people about it IS how you do politics & accelerate progress. You added “be kind to our neighbors” sarcastically like he’s being naïve but he isn’t. And he’s been telling people to join protests as part of it, too.

Pete spent his last few years being one of the most
transformational secretaries of transportation in the US making historic gains happen for consumer & disability rights, minority communities, public transit, equity, etc. That’s what he does when he’s in public office.

This is what true patriotism sounds like.

I hope Democrats insist on making it very clear that Republicans are intentionally setting a ticking timeline for their political advantage, without care for its consequences on their country or fellow Americans. That’s not what you do as a legislator when you love your country.

VP Vance has cast the deciding vote in the Senate to cut Medicaid, take away food assistance, blow up the deficit, and add tax breaks for the wealthiest.

This bill is unpopular because it is wrong.
