Straight of Hormuz, with Buddha imposed, text: The realization that the lack of oil isn't causing your suffering, but the desire for oil itself, on your path to enlightenment.

Possible solution to the Strait of Hormuz?

a series of three posts from my twitter in 2020:

post 1: in star trek the most popular social network is SandwichNet where everyone is constantly making their own signature sandwiches and taking holograms of them and sharing the replicator codes in an open source repository they never mention this onscreen but just trust me

post 2: whenever they mention "credits" as a federation post-money currency this is a reference to how many likes and reposts they get on their sandwiches

post 3: neelix joins sandwichnet after coming to the alpha quadrant and somehow becomes the most popular account and gets invited to a secret group chat of sandwich influencers this is gonna be an entire episode of the new picard show

i still fundamentally believe that sandwichnet is real in star trek

The orphan-crushing machine is just a tool. You can also use it to mulch puppies and purée kittens.

Why are you angry? You can use it for harmless tasks like making mashed potatoes. You eat mashed potatoes don't you? Yes, admittedly it leaks machine oil into the potatoes, but they're working on that. It leaks so much less oil than it did when you tried it three months ago. In a year from now it's going to be a Michelin-starred chef.

Well, that’s typical, gatekeeping by telling people they should have to learn to cook. You don’t think people who can’t cook deserve good food?

So what if the machine is powered by slave labor? That's innovation. You're just scared you're going to be one of them. Besides, it's inevitable. Nobody is going to crush orphans by hand any more. You're going to get left behind.

Oh, well there you go with your ridiculous purity culture again.

Max, eating popcorn: "Sam, you think we'll ever run out of Nazis to bulldoze into volcanoes?"
Sam, snapping a picture: "Don't talk like that, Max! How else would we while away our lazy afternoons?"

wizardologys on tumblr: "One thing I really love about seedy anime websites and YouTube mp3 converters is like. They actually do what they say they're doing. But they WILL try to trick you into downloading a virus. Like it's almost just a greeting at this point. I try to extract a song from a YouTube video and it says free VPN installer tonight perhaps? Free VPN installer tonight queen? And I say YouTube-mp3 converter you sly dog, you know what I'm here for. Show me the goods. And YouTube-mp3 converter says ahhh you got me, no getting one over on you. Thought it was worth a try tho. Here you go king x"

idk I’ve seen a bajillion kids movies where the kids parents die & let me tell you, having a convo with my kid about how anyone can die at any time & it doesn’t matter if they’re someone’s mom or dad is way harder than having a convo about how sometimes someone has two dads or whatever. And yet

The “separating the art from the artist” conversation uniquely bothers me. I feel strongly that everybody goes through old discourse, and that’s fine. This though? This one persists because people seem to want to be absolved of whatever little trespass they’ve already resolved to commit.

I am shocked to learn this is actually underestimating costs, because it ignores the infrastructure costs.

This video is lowballing it.

A screenshot of a 2010 article from The Guardian, ‘Avatar director James Cameron joins Amazon tribe’s fight to halt giant dam.’ Cameron is quoted as saying the following: "I felt like I was 130 years back in time watching what the Lakota Sioux might have been saying at a point when they were being pushed and they were being killed and they were being asked to displace and they were being given some form of compensation," he said. "This was a driving force for me in the writing of Avatar – I couldn't help but think that if they [the Lakota Sioux] had had a time-window and they could see the future… and they could see their kids committing suicide at the highest suicide rates in the nation… because they were hopeless and they were a dead-end society – which is what is happening now – they would have fought a lot harder."

Whatever your intent I think you should ask the Indigenous people in your life what they think of you making song cords and LARPing as a racist caricature of their cultures made by a man who thinks the Lakota were a weak “dead-end society” and should have fought harder to preserve their culture 🫩
