My only experience with Evangelion was the original 24 episode anime way back in the 90s. But even before social media and Tumblr fandom, I've always felt uncomfortable with the notion of fixing "broken" characters with happy endings, often through juvenile conceptions of love and marriage.

Service game struggling? Lie that you will let studio improve it to realize their vision and then shut down. Live service game unsuccessful? Lie that you will ensure it can grow and then shut down. Live service game marginally profitable? Lie that you will foresee exciting future and then shut down.
I obviously don't think all service games should launch as free-to-play / freemium experiences, but man it's almost like asking anyone to invest $40+ in them in this economy is a big ask, to say nothing of several fraught attempts that have crashed and burned and left player bases in the lurch.
