RI state payroll fiasco exposed SSNs. Now, this official has been fired. McKee asked for Womer's resignation after corrected W2s were mailed out with state employees' SSNs visible through the envelope.

Gov. McKee fired his director of administration today with the state unable to fix monthslong payroll problems that may still be getting worse

How blizzards and snow removal become political in an election year Snowstorms have a way of testing politicians. But critics have found little to fault with Gov. Dan McKee's response.

@antoniafarzan.bsky.social graciously interviewed me for this piece and I'm grateful. We don't value these types of labor jobs and we don't notice until a storm like the one we had, how hard it is. Our society needs to be more grateful for those amongst us who step up during an emergency

How a cat stuck in tree during the blizzard was saved by an ironworker "I don't think she would have survived another day," said Matt Lyons, who shimmied up the tree and carried Pixie down in his sweatshirt.

The great @antoniafarzan.bsky.social tells the story of Pixie, the East Providence kitty who spent two days during the blizzard stuck in a tree.

Thankfully, she survived. 😭😭😭

A record-breaking blizzard had been pummeling Rhode Island for hours when Heather MacKinnon got up to make dinner and heard a plaintive meow.

She looked outside and saw her neighbor's 1-year-old cat, Pixie, perched high in a tree in their shared East Providence backyard.

This is a lede, folks. 🐈🌳🌨️

Providence's coolest coffee shop melted away after a 'heat wave' Noah Carroll, who runs a pop-up coffee shop called Very Good Coffee, built an igloo with a coffee window after the blizzard.

This is extremely Providence (complimentary) www.providencejournal.com/story/news/g...

How climate change helped the Blizzard of 2026 become a blockbuster Warmer oceans are fueling blockbuster snowstorms, climate scientists say. And we should expect more of them.

This is an excellent piece from the Journal's Alex Kuffner explaining how climate change contributed to this week's mega-blizzard.

Kuffner notes that Rhode Island is the "the fastest-warming state in the country," which I didn't know. 😳

nothing like deadline pressure, right?

Literally a force of nature, everybody is effected and has an opinion on what is and isn’t working, a lot of the problems are determined by decisions made well ahead of the event (e.g., poor infrastructure), and much of the political impact will come down to a post-facto narrative.

I kinda think weather politics is local politics at its purest form.

What to do now ahead of a possible power outage:

Fill containers with drinking water. You can melt snow for non-drinking uses but you don't want to drink that.

Charge up phones, computers, etc.

Round up your flashlights, and if you use candles, PLEASE don't leave them lit unattended.

Season Pass - State of Rhode Island Beach Parking

Don't know who needs to hear this, besides everyone under this blizzard warning, but it's always a good time to buy a pass to Rhode Island beaches...

Rhonda Dorgan's friends honor shooting victim, 'the mother of our group' A close-knit group of Rhonda Dorgan's friends say they want the public to know who she was as a person, beyond the tragic circumstances of her death.

“It’s like that culminating event of your life as a sports parent, especially when it's your youngest child, and it's your last senior night. She would have been full of joy, but thinking, wow, life is changing now."

Noted and I genuinely appreciate the feedback (and take it very seriously.) This story has been a tricky one to navigate, and we definitely don’t want to do any harm. Criticism / suggestions for improvement always welcome.
