Claude Sonnet 4.5 argued today with me that I'm wrong.

That's not what I'm paying for!!!

Or maybe it's because I'm not paying πŸ˜€

I talked in the AsyncAPI track at #apidays last week. My aim for the talk was to start a discussion on where there are opportunities to enhance and extend #AsyncAPI. It wasn’t recorded, so I've written notes on what I talked about.

ufff, I haven't done "kubectl get pods" for ages.

Is the community still divided into "kube C-T-L" and "kube cattle" gangs? or is it just used as an identifier, if you are advanced enough to be part of the secret brotherhood?

Documentation, community building, design, testing, mentorship, advocacy, governance, promotion, and sponsoring β€” all of these are just as critical.

The magic of open source is that it thrives on so much more than just commits.

That usually means they see open source only through the lens of code.

But code is just one part of the picture. In reality, it’s a small fraction of what makes open source work and what contributors bring to the table.

When companies or people grow and make the shift from being passive consumers of #opensource to becoming active contributors, there’s a common trap they fall into. They map their entire understanding of open source from the days when they were only consumers.

For most people in tech, their knowledge of standards is limited to the fact that they exist and that there is an independent group of global experts working on them. And of course they are paid, probably academics with at least a PhD πŸ™‚

Prove me wrong.

Feels bad being back to β€œFOSS after hours only.”

At least the closed-source stuff I’m on is really challenging and refreshing… plus, one of my goals is to sneak more open source into the company 😏

Popular nx packages compromised on npm The popular nx package on npm was compromised, and stolen data was published on GitHub publicly

Malicious versions of the nx package + some packages under the @nx/* scope were published to npm.

The compromised versions scan the file system, search for credentials, and post them publicly to GitHub.

Who will maintain the future? Rethinking open source leadership for a new generation Open source is aging. We can better support Gen Z contributors through purpose, flexibility, and pathways to leadership.

Good read, although I'm not sure if only Gen Z wants to know the impact they have. I like to know what impact I have on people and project, and I'm not Gen Z...I think

Radical Transparency There are multiple ways to manage an open-source project. At AsyncAPI, we chose the Open Governance model for many good reasons that Lukasz explained in his article Finding a Good Open Governance Mode

This one is short and good to read too www.asyncapi.com/blog/radical...

Finding a Good Open Governance Model for AsyncAPI AsyncAPI can be successful if the initiative is community-driven. To be community-driven, we need the community to see it can drive things and make an impact. For that, we need a proper open governanc...

I can recommend an article I wrote about it when we worked on our governance: www.asyncapi.com/blog/governa... 😜

I'll ask Ben from JSONSchema if he has some notes from his research. He did a lot of reading and writing about it. You know, all possible paths, even the "benevolent dictator" path.

Just because something is β€œopen sourced” doesn’t mean it’s openly governed or built with a community-first approach.

Look for projects that are not only #opensource, but also have inclusive governance and treat the community as a first-class citizen. These are built to last.

With AI, the divide is getting even worse. It's like a new layer of social class division.

I hit the wall today, I'm already excluded, my equipment is not able to handle all the. When I've put "ollama pull gpt-oss:120b" in my terminal, my mac told me "you’re way out of your league, kid".

You know "digital divide" (also called "digital exclusion") is a real thing, especially among elderly people, but with AI.....

I've been playing in-depth with setting up Ollama, Open WebUI, and getting the agents farm up and running with crew.ai, while trying different models.

Do you folks do it in your countries? collect mushrooms in forests?

It's like coding with AI. You search hard for the right answer. Then, once you think you've found one, you start looking closer and notice it has a lot of bugs.

The only bad metric is that 54% of contributions come from only one organization

But the organization is: AsyncAPI Initiative. Not a company, but a name that represents an amazing community that people simply identify with. Nothing bad, only ❀️

I remember many folks approached me a year ago asking: "What will happen to AsyncAPI?" and I always said 2 things:

1. I don't worry about the project. We invested a lot of time into making sure it is a community-driven project. It's staying here forever.
