My partner who grew up in Cumbria tells me this all the time. I will not accept it. No part of Yorkshire can be in the midlands end of.

Thank God for some actual proper reporting on this. Had seen a thing on FB and had no idea what people were on about. Parents were really getting their knickers in a knot about it though...

Containing a measles outbreak is nearly impossible. Now what? With vaccination levels well below those needed for herd immunity, outbreaks are lasting longer and becoming more dangerous, not just for the most vulnerable

The only way to contain measles - and prevent deaths - is vaccination for almost everyone. And we do not seem to be getting on top of it.... As one public health expert told me "it is ferociously infectious". www.doctors.net.uk/news/contain...

I think my time teaching at university is done. Doing a 4-wk mini course and 2/29 showed up. Such a huge waste of my time when already v busy (although the 2 that were there were great). Universities will lose access to professionals actually working in the real world because there’s just no point.

R number somewhere between 12-18. Hangs around in the air. Imagine the infection control nightmare in a A&E waiting room (hopefully a patient with suspected measles would have been triaged on arrival). 1 in 5 cases hospitalised potentially. Huge knock on impact on your immune system after recovery.

Am writing about how to control a measles outbreak and I cannot stress enough how awful measles is, how you can’t escape it and how poorly it makes you. Also the MMR vaccine is very very effective. We’re lucky to have it.

This πŸ‘†

Main parties not meeting people’s needs/reality, progressive vote underestimated in media discourse, party infighting leading to electorate being forgotten, etc, etc. seems pretty straightforward to me

You mean how people freely, fairly and democratically voted to ensure you didn't win? How scandalous.

It’s a very strong speech that will chime with a v large slice of electorate following on from the Greens messaging about people running ever harder just to stand still and how unfair that is. Seems like that should be something a Labour Party should also be addressing?

27.02.2026 09:12 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

obviously today is a huge embarrassment for Matt Goodwin and for Reform, which is something that we absolutely ought to celebrate, but we must also remember it's a huge embarrassment for Morgan McSweeney and Maurice Glasman and all the Blue Labour weirdos, and that's important to celebrate too :)

A truly historic and (potentially) momentous win for the Greens. They’ve never won 10% in a by election before. Now they’ve won in a part of Manchester Labour has held since 1931.

you know I would say her matching pink phone case really makes this, gives Goodwin a huge "sad loser man at the end of Legally Blonde" vibe

27.02.2026 08:51 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I think it’s fair to say - Labour did this to themselves, the Reform response to the loss is incredibly racist/Trumpian and people can see them for what they are, and this is a big boost for the Greens. And maybe just maybe we should not let Reform dominate the conversation quite so much.
