Indeed. Some of the post-war buildings have a lot to be desired!

Kevin McCloud delivered a lecture for SAVE’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

This struck a chord. 'When we bulldoze buildings we also destroy the collective memory, culture and identity of the communities they belong to.'

It's a reminder that buildings are far more than just materials. ⛪

SAVE celebrates the listing of 'One of the most memorable and theatrical spaces on the Underground.’

Iconic 20th-century Southwark Station gives off Star Trek vibes and is totally deserving of its new Grade II recognition.

Well done to @savetoreuse.bsky.social for a successful campaign. 🚂

'Stonehenge of the carbon age' is how Sir Antony Gormley described the cooling towers at Britain’s last coal-fired power station, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, Nottinghamshire.

Whether you like or loathe these enigmatic markers of the landscape, listing has been rejected and they will be demolished by 2030.

An interesting and practical way to highlight our churches in need, and the repairs and maintenance that they need to keep them standing.

It also highlights the invaluable work of the Friends of Friendless Churches. ⛪

The image shows the outside of the former church of St Osmund (Grade II*) in Parkstone, Dorset, was designed by ES Prior and Arthur Grove and completed in 1916. Following structural problems it was sold in 2005 but it remains a place of worship, now as St Dunstan’s Antiochian Orthodox Church.

🧵A stark warning from the National Churches Trust: 1 in 20 churches say they'll probably or definitely not be used for worship in 5 years.

That's hundreds of historic buildings which are community anchors, architectural gems and living heritage, all facing an uncertain future.

Remember, remember the 5th of November,
gunpowder, treason and plot...

The day Guy Fawkes tried to blow up The House Of Lords.

Even though it's a different structure now, having been rebuilt after a fire in 1834, it's still a good excuse to highlight this impressive historic building! 🏦

There are quite a few pubs vying for the top spot of London's oldest public house. But, after digging into their history, it turns out only two can back it up with evidence. 🍺

It seems to be this week's historical building theme - tin tabernacle churches. This time, the church is in Scotland and, if you have the funds and inclination, you can buy it as it's up for sale! ⛪

SAVE's Building of the Month deserves a mention.

Increasingly rare, this is a charming, unlisted late 19th-century tin church, nestled in woodland in Sherfield English, Hampshire, just waiting for a new job. Let's hope it finds one soon! ⛪

This seems to be an accepted solution to get rid of a pesky heritage building issue by unscrupulous developers. We need to see far more of the 'rebuild at your own cost' restorative justice to stop this happening even more.

Our director JT visited Wells Cathedral with Cliveden Conservation and Nick Cox Architects. Pioneering mortar repairs carried out in the 80s and 90s were found to have faired really well, but much of the sculpture needs further repairs.

Never good to have crumbly scones. A bad scone review could ruin a department store reputation!
