One story that didn't make it into my book is that the Indian revolutionaries in Paris took part in the massive demonstrations across the city on 17 October 1909 after the execution of the Spanish anarchist educator Francisco Ferrer.

Sayad's work is so good and I wish it found a broader audience both inside and outside the Francophone world. Thinking the Irish emigration experience through Sayad would be fascinating.

Really moving find in Dakar archives today. A letter from Sira Sangare asking the Minister of the Colonies to intervene to help find out what happened to her son. He had been mobilised in May 1916 but all trace of him vanished in the autumn of 1918. No record was found to confirm his fate.

Venezuela raid enriches MAGA billionaire The ouster of Maduro is a financial windfall for a prominent Trump-supporting billionaire, investor Paul Singer.

Paul Singer, whose firm owns the US subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company, spent millions in 2024 to re-elect Trump.

Now, after Trump's invasion of Venezuela on behalf of Big Oil, he's set to cash in on his investment.

A government of, by, and for the billionaires.
