SCOTUS just gave states permission to ban gender-affirming medical care for adolescent gender dysphoria (against the advice of all major medical orgs)

At least twenty studies have examined the mental health benefits of this care. You can evaluate them for yourself: open.substack.com/pub/jackturb...

States that haven’t passed bans can continue care - this doesn’t impact them.

For states that have bans, the laws can still be challenged in state court and blocked there.

A devastating day for American medicine and America’s children.

A great day for tortured logic aimed at achieving the court’s political goals.

The court somehow managed to conclude this law doesn’t discriminate based on transgender status or sex.

One way in psychiatry we test if something has an innate / genetic basis is with “twin studies” - comparing monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins. If MZ are more likely to be concordant than DZ, it suggests an innate / genetic basis
