The classic ploy of each politician that makes their hay by sowing division and hate through racism and 'identity politics' when they are called out for this:

"No way, you're the one who is using identity politics now!"

Just take the L and move on champ!

Its pretty wild how inaccessible youth sports can get as they get older and into the higher levels. I know we all love a good story about a single mom who worked three jobs so their kid could play hockey but wouldn't it be great if more kids could play and easily access the benefits of sport?

We are living through the most villainous timeline, with the dumbest villains imaginable, while simultaneously realizing that too many people can't be bothered to give a sh*t.

The first part is a little unclear: I mean, *the legitimization of schools and hospitals as targets in Gaza and Iran*

The legitimate targeting of schools and hospitals in Gaza and Iran are connected to how the US already sees schools and hospitals at home: as targets, places to strip to the studs for profit, for those who are not fully human, as battle zones and not safe zones.

In the first two months of 2026, the United States has attacked two countries and removed (or killed) their leaders with no repercussions. This should be deeply concerning to everyone.

I love baseball but not entirely sure how you celebrate the WBC & the US hosting a team from a country they're aiding simultaneously conduct a genocide & an illegal war, a a team from a country they've invaded and captured it's leader, and a team from a country they're blockading into starvation....

"Lives were lost. Families were shattered. A small community is now carrying a soul-crushing grief... Yet almost immediately, the tragedy was pulled into the public domain and repackaged... to advance ideological positions and turn suffering into rage farming."

“Right now the focus should be on supporting the community in mourning, not weaponizing this event as hate against a vulnerable group at large.”

I hate profoundly that articles like this need to be written when, like Mel says, the focus should be on community. But thank you Mel for writing ❤️

"Feeling safe" is a personal perception, based on real or imagined threats.

That so many are feeling unsafe is as much a result of those around us stoking fear to fuel their agenda, as it is about real threats.

Struggle is not the goal.

It’s the method.

To get free.

Too many people imagine struggle is the goal, so any acts of worldbuilding that prefigure freedom are dismissed as incidental, as distractions.

Since I moved to the Cowichan Valley, I think a lot about Nick Estes' work around US border towns, towns bordering reservations, and how these lay bare settler colonialism and anti-Indigenous racism, where it might be more covert elsewhere.
