Yeah, this floored me too as a 12 year old. I had my first taste of it in the first Castlevania when I saw later how the view of the castle keep right before the mummies was basically the whole last stage in a silhouette. They continued in other games. Always loved that!

The liquor is pretty good too, though its best IMO when melting the actual candy in koskenkorva/vodka

Funny thing as someone who lives in Northern Europe, Malort doesn't even phase me, it's a type of bäsk, or wormwood liquor(in Swedish, the word 'malört' literally means wormwood). I've had enough absinthe that malört just tickles

but I notice in the US, bitter anise stuff does not go well LOL

If your kid wants a talking toy that new Talking Flower from Mario is pretty adorable. Minion wanted one. Nintendo doesn't use AI, it's an old-fashioned overpriced desk buddy that repeats the same 20 canned sentences like the gods intended

Our little guy does love his games(though he hates 'trendy stuff' and cringes at it, and cringes at AI, the only talking thing he wanted recently was the Mario Talking Flower which is adorbs), but we do the same; always dinner together, go somewhere every week, etc. Just...parent stuff?

I grew up a latchkey xennial. So I had a lot of NES, TV etc. But me and the fam would always at least have dinner together. As I got to my teens, my shift-work mom and I would still go once a week to the local diner or Pizza Hut

The DVD itself was kinda hard to find back then since black metal was still pretty small in the US. We had the Florida and NY death metal scenes, and some stuff like Mercyful Fate/Venom, but often we had to either visit tiny shops, trade or go online, I'd say I saw more bands break out around 2003+

Back in the early 2000s, I knew quite a few metal fans a few years younger than me who wanted to pick up drums after downloading this drum soundcheck from a Satyricon DVD. It was legendary in the Limewire circles(this is cleaned up, the OG download 2000s quality)
