There’s more to rainbows than the human eye can see: here’s how a rainbow extends into the infrared and ultraviolet.

Photos:
1. Infrared
2. Visible (obviously)
3. Ultraviolet, and
4. A composite showing how UV is beyond the violet in a rainbow, and IR beyond the red end.

Anyone else find picking textbooks for a course to be stressful? Publishers knocking at your door offering “the best thing since slice bread”, me trying to maximize learning while minimizing cost, and lots of strong opinions on the best books. Not my favorite part of the job. 🎢

We have new telescope smartphone mounts for our intro astronomy courses. One lab I would like them to do is measure the plate scale of their cellphone when mounted to the telescope. Anyone know of a good imaging app that could measure the distance between two stars in pixels on a cellphone? 🔭🎢
