I respect that though it is clearly possible to have basically any flat soled shoes converted for use in curling (eg like the American man in mixed doubles and his airforce ones), most people just solidly stick to postman pat shoes.

completely agree. It is dangerous, I think, for the State to essentially take a position that (sexual) violence against boys doesn't matter because of relative numbers

Been thinking about this quite a bit recently. According to google ngram viewer the change happened about 2006. Can't help but feel that this House of Commons committee report section (publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5901/cm...) on the distinction misses the point!

Older generations spent a lot less time parenting. Millennial dads spend nearly as much time parenting as Boomer moms did. Millennial and Gen X moms way more.

There’s a pronunciation of Greenwich that is specific to people who are from within about a two mile radius of it. I only learned of as an adult, having grown up 10 miles away.

Front cover of “the women’s football fan yearbook 2026”. Double page spread of the page in the book on Glasgow City

Got this yearbook through the post today as a freebie because I contributed to the Glasgow City page. Really nice to see and the type of thing I would have loved as a child but was ofc not available in the 90s

A crowd of people in central Dublin holding the Irish tricolour flags and other banners and flags including a pro trump one, one that says “Blessington hold the line”

As someone with a bunch of Irish emigrants dotted about my family tree, this nationalist/ ?anti-immigration march was a pretty wild thing to stumble across in Dublin today

Screen grab from bbc sport showing result of Crystal Palace v Southampton (4-4). Scorers for palace- Larkin, vanhaevermart, weerden. Scorers for Southampton- mcalonie, Brazil, bourne, collett

Wild that two ex swpl players scored in this and Kirsty howat wasn’t one of them. Palace are basically swpl fc this season though

On my way home now from a great #MedSoc25 thanks to all the presenters, the committee and the BSA staff for making my last one as co-convenor, and part of the committee, a good one. Hopefully see you all next year!

Wikipedia:Signs of AI writing - Wikipedia

Wikipedia editors trying to fend off the onslaught of AI crap have crowdsourced some telltale signs of LLM-generated writing; it might be handy for editors and proofreaders generally. Thanks to @ellenrykers.com for pointing me to it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...

Yeah no chance an actual human was doing the BBC ‘coverage’. It got stuck on 8 minutes for about half an hour. Not very good at all

Yeah not good at all. I think Kozlova is best as part of a striking partnership- saw moments of it with lovera last season but didn’t quite lift off even then. This is what the BBC though we were playing haha

Blanking On the distortion of feminist histories (and collecting some critiques of “gender critical” feminism in one post)

I am doing the audio for No is Not a Lonely Utterance. My no is getting croaky but is coming out one way or another! I wrote a post collating 10 pieces (itself included) on g-c feminism & the broader anti-woke & anti-edi ideological landscape. Last for a bit. Solidarity! substack.com/home/post/p-...

Turns out it’s quite a big fracture with misalignment and I’ve been cutting about with a broken arm for a month 🍖🥴

Hurt my wrist playing in goal a while back- thought it was a sprain. After swelling went down I noticed a lump over the end of the bone so thought I’d better get it x-rayed in case of small fracture.
