I've heard Infernal Devices was well worth the read! I just couldn't take any more after finishing the 6th book in the TRILOGY.

It falls more closely under what they were trying to do with Blu-Ray, where the update was primarily to prevent privacy, and they're following closely the iTunes and Netflix playbooks, even with their own "studio" of self-publisher authors.

Originally when Amazon launched Kindle eBooks, I automatically could download the eBook version of any book I'd bought on Amazon AND any book I could prove physical ownership of.

They have shifted and altered terms of service since then. The question is if paywalling purchased data is legal.
