I kept telling him reading is like a super power. Unlocks the world. But it wasnโt until he had interests that drove him to embrace that power that he dove in.
Iโm certain not every parent agrees with this, but itโs worked wonders for us: let the kid lead. Let them pursue what interests them, at their pace. We coached our oldest on reading and encouraged it but didnโt press it. HE finally wanted to really read at 7-8, and then it was off to the races.
