Being a fascist is a deeply demoralizing experience. You have to not only radically alter your worldview to make reality fit into your unhinged schema, but that worldview is predicated on the notion that the weakest, most unworthy degenerate worms on the planet are somehow overpowering and humiliating you on a moment-by-moment basis. In mechanical terms too, the lowered morale also reduces your volition score—the more you indulge in your delusions, the less you are able to exercise self-control and self-awareness. The point of fascism being mechanically detrimental—the ludonarrative theme—is that fascism is an unequivocally self-destructive ideology, the practice of which only serves to nurture that self-destructive urge and turn it outward. It's not like Dark Side points in KotOR where you can access cool new abilities and get to enjoy being such a nasty lil rascal; you are not supposed to enjoy being a fascist in Disco Elysium. Fascism is the act of self-deception in service of making your own life more painful, solely for the payoff of making life more painful for people you dislike.

Canada is sliding further into authoritarianism & nationalism each month. This is fostered by Liberal & Conservative politicians cultivating the idea of foreign threats to create a scenario where they have permission to do whatever they want.

Cyclists and pedestrians, including children, are routinely put directly in harm's way by dangerous street design that prioritizes car-owner convenience.

And yet the police very rarely even admit this, let alone call for infrastructural interventions that would enable safety.

The reason we do mutual aid & the reason why mutual aid is grounded in anticapitalist theory from a long time is that capitalism says your survival depends on what you can do for people. We say, no you deserve to survive by virtue of your humanity. If you can't produce, we will help you survive.

They've haven't tried to use this sort of monitoring to decide to do helpful things.

Instead you're supposed to call and email your rep and plead with them to do the right thing.

I've been to some countries where people live under military rule or autocracy. And without fail, one of the questions I get when they ask about life in the U.S. is whether it's true that Americans just let homeless people die on the street.

And putting "trauma-informed" in front of your project does not make it less extractive or exploitative.

Things I look for:
1) Are they offering me a chance to publish or am I helping them build their CV?
2) If my "lived experience" will be used for some purpose, will I be part of deciding how/when

Centrism shares the goals of the right wing, but wishes to use the aesthetics of the left wing.

This is why you won't see centrists advocating for universal healthcare, or for preventing police killing people, or for housing homeless people, or unconditional support for LGBTQ people, etc.
