I did keep an umbrella in my car when my kids were in youth football, however. Standing on the sideline for 2 hours during a football practice in the rain, I appreciated the umbrella. But also wore my Gore-Tex.

It's not a pride thing. Umbrella's are a pain. One hand gets cold, its big and in the way, and your arm gets tired hold it up after a while . And if the wind is blowing at all, you have to fight the umbrella and still get wet. Bring a light-weight rain jacket instead.

The question is how the electricity will be produced. It's hard to replace all that marine diesel being burned today with electricity without...burning marine diesel or something equally dirty. There are major advantages with the marine diesel as a point source instead of non-point, but still...

Wouldn't shipping batteries around just decrease overall efficiency? Now instead of one ship travelling between LA and Beijing, it would take 1 or 2 additiuonal ships shuttling batteries back and forth?
