I'm guessing Canada's economy is getting a bit of a boost from the buffoon in the White House, too.

I'm a geomorphologist, avid boater, Seahawks fan, and progressive voter. A liberal gun-owner that drives an F-150 and a Prius, depending on which suits my need. A scientist who admits when I am wrong (despite what my wife says).
I'm guessing Canada's economy is getting a bit of a boost from the buffoon in the White House, too.
18.02.2026 19:13 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just out of curiosity, is "Fuck ICE!" considered a criticism? It seems more like a sentiment than a criticism...
18.02.2026 19:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I did keep an umbrella in my car when my kids were in youth football, however. Standing on the sideline for 2 hours during a football practice in the rain, I appreciated the umbrella. But also wore my Gore-Tex.
18.02.2026 18:45 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's not a pride thing. Umbrella's are a pain. One hand gets cold, its big and in the way, and your arm gets tired hold it up after a while . And if the wind is blowing at all, you have to fight the umbrella and still get wet. Bring a light-weight rain jacket instead.
18.02.2026 18:40 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Would CBS have pulled the interview without the threat from the FCC on their merger? In the end, CBS has the right to control what they air. The FCC has no right to threaten a media company over a political interview the President doesn't like.
18.02.2026 18:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Your doctor suspects you have cancer and wants to do a scan to determine its extents, and you say "No, that might open a pandora's box of surgeries and treatment!"
Chance of surviving if you do nothing are small. If you treat it, you still might die, but you'll have a chance.
That's where we are.
Nearly unheard of? I guess if you include the Civil War...
16.02.2026 22:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Lets face it @rbreich.bsky.social we have two parties dominated by oligarchs. One is just more dominated.
13.02.2026 23:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Good idea and I'm not going to bash you for it. But if this was really a priority for you, why'd you vote to spend 10,000 times more to fund ICE? Seems like your real priority is standing with your Republican colleagues and Donald Trump, and tossing out a few scraps to your constituents.

13.02.2026 17:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah good point. One of the other comments said oil is about 40% of shipping traffic, so swapping out part of that for battery shipping leaves a lot of room for efficiency improvements.
13.02.2026 17:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The question is how the electricity will be produced. It's hard to replace all that marine diesel being burned today with electricity without...burning marine diesel or something equally dirty. There are major advantages with the marine diesel as a point source instead of non-point, but still...
13.02.2026 16:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Wouldn't shipping batteries around just decrease overall efficiency? Now instead of one ship travelling between LA and Beijing, it would take 1 or 2 additiuonal ships shuttling batteries back and forth?
13.02.2026 16:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Meanwhile we in the US are probably going to start firing up coal powered ships! So much winning...

13.02.2026 16:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Dude! No names if he gave a beer to an underage kid!
13.02.2026 16:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm guessing from the amount of public alcohol consumption I saw on TV that despite having ever off-duty cop in the State there, no one was enforcing alcohol laws as long as you were acting reasonable.
Was the player that gave him the beer wearing a large fur coat by chance?
Geeze! Had no idea they existed, but just checked Amazon and there must be 500 brands!

Yep, she passes the PNW test.
Me too, but I bet the rotary tool is both quicker to sharpen (just change out the blade) and needs it less frequently.
On the plus side, the Spyderco fits nicely in your pocket so you never (rarely?) have to go searching for it. Nor does it require recharging.
OMG My 80+ year old MIL does this, with her quavery hands and rice-paper skin, and I'm always prepared to take her to the ER. We refuse to buy bagels if she's going to be in town.

12.02.2026 17:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not a pimp. A blackmailer. Likely paid for by Putin. Given how the rest of the GOP, and half the dems, are afraid to do anything about DJT, I'm guessing Putin has dirt on enough of them to control both houses and the Presidency. Maybe a conspiracy theory, but it makes sense too.
12.02.2026 17:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't understand at all why Josh McDaniels won ACOY. That should have been Kubiak's award. Or better, Macdonald should have been COY and ACOY for putting together the best team AND calling the best defense in the league. But I guess he'll have to settle for the Lombardi and ring.
12.02.2026 17:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The fact that she's more worried that her constituents might get a free photocopy than she is that they might be disenfranchised tells you she's not working for her constituents at all. Who is she working for?
12.02.2026 15:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Is that what you think I meant? Let me clarify. Her rationale for not supporting this bill is dumb. And now that I know what bill it was from, it even all the more stupid because there are so many GOOD reasons to oppose it. And she fights on this nit-picky hill.
