Picked up my 4th version of Oum Kalthoum's Enta Omri at Record Grouch today. By far the best cover (Cinara-Phone, 181 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, USA); this version includes bonus track "Paradise Song," which I'm about to listen to & try to figure out what it is wish me luck

Clark Coolidge wrote my all-time favorite book of American poetry. He also played drums on this LP, which I found cheap in Corvallis, OR. The Serpent Power, s/t (Vanguard, 1967). First listen to this long-sought-after grail

Painfully aware I'm in the minority here, but my second fave music, after Egyptian 60s-70s, is Brazilian 80s-90s hip hop, difficult-to-impossible to find in the USA. Imagine my thrill finding this OG at Little Axe in Portland last Friday. RZO, Todos São Manos (Cosa Nostra, 1999)

3rd listen to this wonderful Venezuelan electronic LP (Miguel A. Noya, Gran Sabana, 1984, no label). HM at Sublime Frequencies urged me to take an hour-1/2 bus ride from Ballard down to Georgetown Records in Seattle where owner Martin urged me to listen to this. Moral: Listen to others!

Second listen today to this wildly brilliant, stylistically diverse anti-apartheid post-punk LP from 1980s South Africa, unfortunately evergreen relevancy. Best reissue of the year so far. Kalahari Surfers, "Own Affairs" (2025 Via Parigi RE of 1984 Gross National Products OG).
