Ephemera: UK Books & Brighton World Fantasy Convention karloff-shelf.blogspot.com/2025/11/uk-b...
Hi Bsky frens! Lots of new followers recently so here's a brief intro:
I'm Sydney, a writer from the Philippines ๐ต๐ญ I'm also the co-editor of Mapping New Stars: A Sourcebook on Philippine Speculative Fiction, which recently won a World Fantasy Award. My stories have appeared in Fantasy, Apex & more!
I am still thinking about how lovely, welcoming, and conversational everyone was at World Fantasy Convention.
I yearn for such days again closer to home.
We are HYPED to announce that our 2026 Editor Guest of Honour will be @jenralbert.bsky.social - Jen is an acquiring editor at ECW Press, won a British Fantasy Award for her editing work and has been nominated for the Hugo, Ignyte, and World Fantasy Awards.
So excited to have Jen with us next fall!
I finally got around to reviewing the World Fantasy Award 2025 novella shortlist.
Two were excellent.
Two seemed to hold something back.
One just wasnโt for me.
COLLECTOR ALERT: Remember the novella _caterpillars_ by World Fantasy Award-winning author Scott Nicolay, with a beautiful cover painted by @mrj81.bsky.social? I published it in January and it quickly sold out. There is now a signed and lettered special edition available, details below...
๐ญ No, YOU'RE amazing! And because I haven't said it enough - congratulations on winning a World Fantasy Award! ๐ I was with @jhameia.bsky.social when they announced it and the screaming around our table was something else ๐

We're excited to welcome 1st timer @premeemohamed.com to JoCo Cruise 2026! She is a Nebula, World Fantasy, Ignyte, Locus, & Aurora award-winning Indo-Caribbean scientist & speculative fiction author based in Edmonton, Alberta. Visit our website for her full bio: jococruise.com/premee-moham...

I didn't hear that you'd won until now, R.B. Congrats!!
I am so pleased for you! This is fantastic news!
#Birdverse is spectacular, and that Yoke of Stars won the World Fantasy Award is beyond wonderful.
Not sure about the โhotโ part, but here I am in the dress I wore to attend the 2025 World Fantasy Awards banquet in Brighton ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ a few weeks ago.

Snippets of my art buys from @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social - cropped to protect the artists. Jackie Duckworth's "Tiger Tiger"๐
and Mike Horsfield's "Fortress". I really hummed and arred about spending but I can tell you now, I have no remorse whatsoever.

Started in on my @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social books today, pairing The River Has Roots by @amalelmohtar.com with a gorgeous apple and cinnamon layer cake. Both the cake and the book are sumptuous delicacies, and perfect to enjoy on a winterโs day.
The books are assigned randomly to the free book bags at @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social so I was over the moon to find mine contained an ARC of Gothmagog by Jeff Noon and Steve Beard. Iโve long been a fan of Jeff Noonโs work so this made my day.
A brilliant panel discussion at #festival42 .
New Review - letโs start the week with some excellent fantasy Scotland 1745 and two women finally able to share their secrets. I strongly recommend Daughters of Nicnevin by @shonak.bsky.social out now! www.runalongtheshelves.net/blog/2025/11...
Um, yes, please...
A million times, yes. ๐๐๐ฉธ

I am so looking forward to reading this book. I was glad to be at the launch during @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social and hear Stew read from it.
Once again, I find myself enthusing about how much I enjoyed @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social ...

On the weird fiction panel at @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social I talked about how weird fiction can sometimes be like holding a joke until it enters that uncomfortable, unheimlich space. I Say (I Say, I Say) by Robert Shearman (in @datlow.bsky.social Best Horror 12) is a beautiful example of that.
I have just had a brilliant time launching a new science fiction convention in Scotland. PictCon1 in Perth, with guest of Honour Francesca Barbini @lunapress.bsky.social was a blast. Join us next year in October 2026. Link below. And do follow the new account!
The BFS and Waterstones Covent Gdn is excited to bring you Kill the Gods: Epic Fantasy Religion on Thursday 13th November at 6pm.
