On the weird fiction panel at @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social I talked about how weird fiction can sometimes be like holding a joke until it enters that uncomfortable, unheimlich space. I Say (I Say, I Say) by Robert Shearman (in @datlow.bsky.social Best Horror 12) is a beautiful example of that.

New book from me! The sequel to The Executioner's Blade, another fantasy murder mystery full of monsters & intrigue.

I hope the airport is fine with my putting my World Fantasy Award into my carry-on because I do not want to risk losing it in checked luggage.

I saw/heard the author of this forthcoming book @joanneanderton.bsky.social talking about it on a panel at World Fantasy Con and it sounded ace. I’m really bad at taking notes/remembering things from cons (must be the bar…) so glad to be reminded of the title here.

This time last week I was packing to leave @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social. It was a strange con for me as I was deep in bereavement, but the support of so many wonderful friends and loved ones kept me going.

I've almost finished setting back at home after @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social. I'm still getting up hours too early and I still have a stack of books waiting to be shelved. The fact that the shelves are already full isn't helping ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thirty hours door to door, from the hotel in Brighton (UK) to my house in Sydney. A beautiful day here, with Snufkin demanding I immediately take him out for a walk. WFC was fun, great to see lots of people, but there’s no place like home.

Gareth was amaaaaazing. Stairwell gushed like a fangrrrl at meeting Joe Hill. Ali Sparkes seemed to be everywhere at once. 4 other Stairwell authors helped run stall. Exhausting, exhilarating, fun. Join us at EasterCon '26 in Brum! @susiewilliamson.bsky.social @ruthaylett.bsky.social

I submitted something I wrote on the fly during WFC. Maybe my inner spring is filling up again.

But it’s a sign of the incredible, meaningful connections I formed with other folks in the community, conversing and laughing with friends old and new. Thank you all for a beautiful few days!

So this is 50: grateful to be back home, but also grateful to have met so many wonderful people at WFC.

Remembering the pure ferocity of the wind at the Brighton beach shoreline, and how it awakes the ferality and liminality within me: contained rage without and without. You respect the wind and the rolling waves that come in.

Had a super chilled time at the World Fantasy Con in Brighton last weekend. Registration was simple, the events I attended ran smooth allowing plenty of breather time in-between, and the panels were excellent. Many thanks to the organisers and the guests for a great convention.

...just as I post I forgot one more thank you. I just wanted to say "thanks" to everyone who supported all of us who worked on The Dagon Collection. We did not win the World Fantasy Award, but it was a huge honor to be nominated in the first place. Thank you. And, congrats to ALL the winners!
