Summer in #Colorado means getting to visit American pika in the alpine tundra ⛰️ Since they don't hibernate, they spend all summer collecting plants to survive the long mountain winter. Despite looking like mice, pikas are actually a member of lagomorpha...the rabbit family! 🐇 #nature #photography

Even though I could never deal with their summers, Phoenix seems like a great city with lots of opportunities for nature lovers. On these cold days I'm thinking about last summer at a friend's amazing garden. Here is a Calliope Hummingbird, smallest US breeding bird, coming to her black & blue salvia. Not a native plant to CO but doesn't spread invasively from the planters and the hummers love it!🪻

#firstpost I found out in Dec that I got picked to be part of the Colorado Outdoors 2024 #photography issue. Here is the image selected: a Dark-eyed Junco in Conifer, CO. If you see a bird with food in its mouth during nesting season, it's likely taking it to its young nearby! #birding #addBirder
